Been There, Done That

I’m not a Millwright by any stretch of the imagination but sometimes I do that kind of work.

I have changed out 300 HP electric motors that run on 480 volts and weighed over 1600 pounds. The best part is that they were inside of a 3 foot across pipe 4 foot off the ground.

I couldn’t find an exact match but this is close enough. It’s inside that bell in the front there.

Loads of fun, trust me.

Of course I’ve swapped big electric motors on pumps and other things too.

Things like this,

The thing is, the alignment of the pump and motor shafts is a critical thing.

If they are not close to perfect, it will vibrate and very quickly eat up the coupler or bearings on the shafts.

I’m talking thousands of an inch .

They have a laser alignment tool where I work but I have had to do it the hard way too.

That’s why this little skit of Millwright Humor hits for me.

They Are Making Sure Swalwell Is Done

Two more women have come forward with claims of improper sexual behavior against him after he has already dropped out of the Governor;s race and his seat in Congress.

I can’t remember where I saw it but someone said the Democrats really hate it when the methods they invented to smear people are used against one of their own.

They are burying him deep though.

He might be gone but he sure as hell hasn’t been forgotten. I would think eventually there will be criminal charges.

In case you aren’t aware, Swalwell is virurently Anti Gun so his fall from grace is a blessing for those of us who take the 2nd Amendment seriously.

Now You Know Why These Are Every Mechanic’s Nightmare

And why it takes eight freaking hours to do a heater core in some cars.

I did a lot of dashboard work in my day. Under them, in them and removing them completely.

I still have special tools I had to use on the Fords, some I actually fabricated or did the Frankenstein thing to.

I actually did so many heater core jobs on cars like the Lincoln Town Car that I could have the dashboard unbolted and everything unplugged and have the passenger side sitting on the front seat so I could get to the heater core, in less than 45 minutes.

I could do a heater core job in about three hours and it paid 8.

This video is about a more modern dash that has the entertainment screen on it but what I would like you to pay attention to as they build this dash is how many screws are in it and where they put them. Also how many wire connectors there are and components in it.

Ford was notorious for hiding screws in crazy places.

Another thing Ford and Chevy both were notoripus for was using different size heads on basically the same diameter screws.

On the Fords I would use 6, lots of 7’s and 8’s, 9,10’s and even 11′ Millimeter sockets.

Plus all the different Torx bits and Phillips heads. It was absolutely ridiculous.

All of those in one dashboard.
