IT’S MOPAR MADNESS!

I took my son down to Woodburn Oregon to the drags this morning. Actually, he drove. Unfortunately my Grandson was unable to attend due to a commitment at the last minute this morning which disappointed me severely. I was really looking forward to turning him on to some Vintage Iron.

Also unfortunately, I only got about two hours of freaking sleep last night and I can’t seem to doze off completely this evening to get caught up. But my son and I had a great time.

When we got there and got in, we found out it was a MOPAR Only meet and they did not disappoint. Lot’s of early 60’s and 70’s Dodge and Plymouth dragsters.

There was aslo SCADS of the later model Cuda’s and Challengers, like 50 of them.

There was a car show out front and there were some absolutely stunningly restored cars, going all the way back to the late 50’s with one ’48.

Several trucks and station wagons ran also, including one 1961 wagon that had my jaw dropped at it’s time and speed. High 9 seconds and over 130 miles an hour!

They were also running the full quarter mile which was cool.

So we had a great time!

I got to thinking about it and the last time I went to the drags was at that same track, clear back in the mid 90’s!

I just wish I had taken more pictures but it was good for my soul to see and hear a bunch of Big Blocks running full throttle with open headers again.

Even the little Slant Sixes were impressive.

  1. Those pictures brought back some memories of the 7s and 80s at Amarillo Dragway. I used to shoot film and later video for the TV station from about 2/3 of the way down the track. They stopped letting anyone near the track in that area in the mid-eighties. I had several butt pucker moment looking through the camera when a car would go squirrely.
