Wonderful when that happens. When we were building our house, they had a sale on bi-fold closet doors and we had three bedroom closets needing them. I figured the price was too good to pass and bought a spare unit. But I had forgotten our pantry which needed a door and … :^). My then girlfriend was very happy about that as was I.
We keep a pair of plastic buckets with spare hardware – metal connectors with parts left over or never used. These come in handy sometimes for ‘here and now’ repairs.
We had Pella replace all the windows in our house. After a month or so, a tech showed up to double check everything and adjust/ replace one of the locking mechanisms.
I watched the process and chatted with the tech. I said I could have done that myself if I had the parts, and saved him a trip out here.
‘Works for me’ he said and gave me whole box of replacement hardware. It’s stored in my garage, next to the replacement hardware for all the kitchen and bathroom doors and drawers.
Gotta love it when a plan comes to together, no matter how long it takes.
But that goes against our throw away society
Fuck yeah!
Doing exactly that right now myself. Having some windows replaced and a new one added. Snatching all the hardware off the old ones because it fits all the other windows in the house.
