I was transferred to Connecticut while in the US Navy. A guy came in to do some work on the house I was renting with my buddies. He saw me fixing biscuits and gravy and said “That’s poor man’s food.”
Yankees, what can you say?
Shoulda kicked his ass after saying bless your heart.
I know that biscuits and gravy is a staple in the south where I was raised, but I never got that hankering. In our house when I was young, my grandmother would have us poke a hole down in the biscuit and wallow it out and she would take homemade butter and and honey or cane syrup and mix it together and we would fill up that hole, and eat it like dessert.
I could never break that habit.
But I don’t look down on anybody who eats gravy on their biscuit. I mean, it’s biscuits … and gravy … what could go wrong.
I made biscuits and gravy for supper last night. It’s the food of gods.
Anyone who denied that it wasn’t part of a major food group would have to be a soulless Bastard
What about SoS? Ate that for dinner many times. Still have it at the hunt club.
Don’t make any difference what you use to get the gravy from the plate to your mouth: biscuits, toast, slice of Mama’s homemade bread, mashed potatoes; it’s all good.
Amen, spoon works also.
True. I’ve also been known to drink it straight out of the serving bowl, but I can be a heathen when so inclined.
Biscuits are not a meal! They are classified as dessert.
