  1. Very cool except the music from that pansy ass draft dodger that was proud to be 4-F!

  2. Back in the dreamtimes of my yute, we duck taped an bundle of roman candles together and went hunting each other in the vacant land at the end of the street.

  3. I worked in a gas station back in the late 60s early 70s and we would shoot bottle rockets across the highway at our rival station and vice versa. In retrospect, that wasn’t the smartest idea in the world……

  4. Bottle rockets were just relegalized here in the home state.

We nearly shot some eyes out back in the day.

    • Greatest Christian Holiday

Oh, yep littlest kid in the hood. I will take 10 dozen of this and turn the teenage boys loose.

I use to do a fireworks show at my place, cannot confirm if several 500 and 1000 shot commercial cakes were not at the end of a fuse that had about 150 consumer grade mortars and other stuff in front of it on a 16 foot flat trailer at the back corner of my place. And I cannot confirm if there were some 3” and 5” mortar tubes at the end of the fuse and 40 or 50 friends and family eating like kings and drinkin a lot of cold beer till dark.

Oh, the internet is you friend, for those kids who grew up like me and only got a gross of bottle rockets and 1000 firecrackers at my party a dime or 2 was dropped for them and well supplied.

      Yes, I Love Merica

      • Nice. I’m shooting nearly 400 consumer shells from racks I’ve built over several years now, and a couple of dozen mostly 500G consumer cakes. Has been a family tradition I started several years ago. The kids love it, and I get to indulge my pyromaniacal tendencies for an evening. All shot via a Cobra system with several firing modules.

        • Nice BRD. I saved the mortar tubes from each year so those got bigger each year. 1 long fuse for the consumer grade stuff. I have heard that commercial stuff has in and out fuses so you can sequence them.

it was always a fight I had to settle which of my kids got to light the fuse.

One year my Dad was there and he told my 90 year old father in law, “Bear Claw always liked those fireworks”, I just laughed.

          • I chain fuse a lot of my mortar racks to use only one or two ignition points (with an ematch attached). I do directly insert an ematch into the lift charge of about 30 mortar shells each year, to time their launch precisely to music. With the Cobra system, I can let kids in attendance safely participate in the show by messing buttons.

Yeah, I know, that’s not nearly as cool as lighting a fuse with a blow torch and having to run like hell, but hey, I have to make sure nobody gets hurt, or that’d be the end of my doing shows in all likelihood.

For tubes I use polyethylene DR11’s with heavy wood it’s in the base. I don’t really trust the fiberglass tubes they typically pack in with retail shell kits. I’ve used them in the past, and had a couple showing fatigue after only 2-3 firings, so now I only use the good shit.

  5. Fireworks….Darwinian selection at it’s finest. While I have no need for such a thing somehow I still feel the need to have one.

  6. We used a 3′ length of PVC pipe to aim. A neighbor made sure each kid had a sack of fire crackers. At least 1,000 per sack, some up around 5,000.

    • It’s fun to play Santa Claus.

On Monday after one I saw a friend who had his son there for the show. He made me laugh, he said, “Bear Claw, your yard looked like Omaha Beach.

  7. We got bored with normal bottle rocket stupidity.
Usually somewhen in the 2nd case of beer or so.
It never got named, but it was fun and stupid.

Light *any* size bottle rocket…Yeah this just might hurt. The more people, the more fun/chaos.
Now, throw it up into the air…It’ll catch and take off in a random direction.
    Sometimes right back at ya.
Repeat until out of beer or bottle rockets.

  8. We had a piece of bamboo for a launcher, out the car window with bottle rockets towards houses of hot girls while high school. We landed a few on roofs, something that now that I am no longer 16 years old I realize was a pretty stupid thing to do.
That same Halloween night, we took some traffic cones from the cemetery’s storage shed, which were extra tall, and remade the bus routes in the country, marking some roads as being closed, etc.
The next morning there were at least 3 bus loads of kids who were late for first hour. We just smiled and said nothing, and nobody suspected us since we were the kids who normally were always the so called nice kids.

  9. We were do poor we couldn’t afford rockets and crap….we used rocks.
Nothing like a good rock fight !

  10. Daaayumm! I forgot all about that crazy stuff. 73 ,Air Force, Biloxi Mississippi. A few of us bought a gross of those bottle rockets and went to the beach. That was a Hoot!
