Ha!
It would be nice if GM would reproduce a cheap pick-up, like the olden days. But no, they are greedy mofo’s
They do what our goobermint and overlords tell them to do.
Drove 3 at various times for work. Wouldn’t pay to do again.
74? Reading tool body with a Hurst shifter installed by a drunken chimp. There were claims it had a 4 speed, but most days you were lucky to find 2. The linkage was totally fucked.
The 75 or 76 one was an utterly beat down campground work truck. Everything leaked but at least you could use the hole in the floor as an ashtray. I think I backed into most every tree for miles and didn’t care.
The 77 was registered under self-inspected 10k lbs class and had once gotten a fine for hauling overweight. It was only 5 or 6 years old, but abused as a masonry truck before we got it. We abused it worse hauling everything from trash to gravel and block. Pitman arm was so worn they took it off in 2 pieces. Made for an interesting dirt road run when the back end broke loose while the front end was wobbling…Oops. Almost flipped it on a straightaway. Speedo cable never got reconnected after it lost the transmission (either time). It had the in-floor ashtray too tho. And I think all 3 had rear mains made of bubblegum.
Rather have a 67 c-10 with the 6 cylinder. It’d be going forever w just basic BS maint.
my Dad bought a 68 C-20 from the dealer. 4 speed cast iron trans.
292 inline six. 3/4 ton. it was a great truck. dad worked in masonary.
so, yeah. it got used and then some. I rebuilt the engine at 100,000
miles and replaced the clutch. bored over 020. new pistons, rings and bearing. cam was good and it specs. (?) anyway, it ran like the wind after that. hardest part was getting the single barrel carb right.
the bed was shot, so he spalled on a square body one on it (bad)
anyway, he gave it to his brother to sell in KY. well, he never did.
he used it to death hauling all sorts of crap.
never changed the oil in it at all. it lasted 12 years with that asshole. never liked that prick after what he did to that truck.
he offered to sell it to me for a grand (??) but it was shot by then.
weird part is I have a brother just like him. and no. I never let him drive anything I own.
Who’d want one of those ugly POS’s anyway? Must have been designed by a bunch of 6 year olds playing with cardboard boxes in their Dad’s office at GM one day.
Have driven one of every model chev had from 3100 to c20. Like the late 60s ones the best. Had all the parts right and pair of pliers, two screw drivers and a crescent wrench and you could fix about anything that went sideways. Now I have a newer Colorado and that poor bastards always wants to talk to the mother ship. Half temped to get rid of it and find something else desert iron 69 and call it good.
I’ll take any pre ’80 Ford pick ’em up.
