Fun side note: In the early 90’s, when Red Emerson, owner of Sierra Pacific Industries, bought Southern Pacific’s 550,000 acres of timberland in California, he went to his banker and asked for a loan that was for more than the value of his sawmills and timberland holdings at the time. He got the loan.
    Thirty years later, that land is still part of his 2.2 million acres of land holdings in America.

  3. SP 9010 (5) was a 2000 hp German built diesel- hydraulic unit,one of two or three that SP experimented with but they just could not handle North American railroad tonnage and operating conditions.
