    • What’s a Wakonda, except an imaginary black holiday that never has or never will exist.
      And….
      A town in South Dakota.

  1. Friend,,,we can meet at the Bereford range,,We’ve been here 5 years,,wish it was at least 20.

  2. Is it because you like drag racing? Or because you like slowing to 5 mph to make 90° corners?

    • What does drag racing or slowing to 5mph to make corners have to do with it? I still drive like I was 18 and yell and flip off slow ass drivers all the time! I fucking hate drivers that can’t drive like they stole the car…

      • Because all of the roads are straight lines (because they were built on property lines to not interfere with farming, and all of the corners are right angles at the corners of properties. This differs from most other places where todays roads are overlaid on historical horse trails that wind ’round and about.

          • County(section) lines every mile except for the anomaly in every range and township because of the curvature of the earth when traveling north.

  3. There’s a Wakanda in Kansas, too. I’ve only been out here since 1988 and never heard of it, but Bear Claw found it, so I think it’s a flaw in his character to seek ’em out and celebrate ’em. Rumor has it he has personalized Wakanda under shorts as well but considering they wouldn’t go with his normal attire of a loin cloth, I don’t believe it.

    • Yep I ended up driving near it on Walkabout II coming home from Yellowstone.

People, it’s not as bad for WWW because it was Lake Wakanda like an actual place hollyweird made a movie about that the Derq is gonna populate.

  4. As a life long resident of sd that is the worst part. Please find somewhere else to live

    • I am, I am moving to the middle of the state. I used to live in Huron, De Smet and Mitchell. I am well aware of that part of the state.

        • What’s cool is on the way home from my next visit to Lake Lizzie in Minnesota I will swing by his grass hut on the serengety plain near Wakanda and smoke the native herbs in a peace pipe.

Then I can swing thru Johnny Carson’s birth town on my way thru Stromsburg for some more potatoe baloney for myself and a dear friend who grew up there.

          • You’re going to Red Oak Iowa? That is Johnny’s birth town. He was raised in Norfolk Nebraska and his boyhood home is on 13th Street /Highway 81 and has a sign in front of the house.

    • As someone considering moving to South Dakota, why should I avoid that part?
      Thank you.

      • You like mosquitos that equal anything in Florida or Alaska? Clannish redder than redneck farmers and marshy land?

      • Not much around there, northern half much prettier but beware the tourist areas of deadwood and especially sturgis if you don’t like crowds

  5. Are you moving to be closer to Kristi Noem? She’s going to be single soon.

I was a SD resident for a few years and only spent a couple of days there the entire time. If any of your readers are considering full-timing in an RV, SD makes it easy. They are one of the few states that allow a mail box to be a legal address. You only have to go there in person to get the driver’s license and then once every five years to renew.. Everything else can be done by mail or online. And no state income tax.

  6. Thought of moving there after driving back roads from Billings, Mt to Sturgis, Deadwood, Rapid City. Lots of nice small towns but I don’t even like the snow in SW Idaho. But it’s a beautiful state.

  7. As a native South Dakotan, I would love to move back but other obligations dictate not right now.

    • If you move back, there will be two Swedes there once I get there. Too many Norwegians and Germans for my taste…
