  1. An old Navy buddy used to say MARINE stnds for Muscles Are Required, Intelligence Not Expected. Alternatively, My A** Rides In Naval Equipment, SIR!

  2. The name “marine” was coined by a Naval Admiral trying to come up with a name for the new branch of the Navy. He picked up a hand full of shit, threw it in a fan and it went m a r i n e !

  3. Heh. I don’t know about all that. But I do know that he has street smarts and that can be way more useful. And he has been trained to make the enemy unalive using his bare hands. A useful skill when pop goes the weasel. His favorite crayon color is red – the blood of the enemy. We have complimentary skills, he knows how to make the enemy unalive and I know how to keep the freindlies alive. He is a hunter, I am a gatherer although I have no compunction when it comes to personally making animals unalive. He’s a keeper.

  4. Even though she was a raging commie, don’t forget Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote about the Marines ..

“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”

    —Eleanor Roosevelt, 1945

  5. Platoon… that’s cold. I’d have gone with a squad. I have run into several surprisingly intelligent Marines. It’d be unfair to divide the IQ by platoon, But by squad, seems more accurate. They have proven adept at BBQ, beer brewing, scrounging(read stealing), and shooting, great to have on our team. Friendly joking from USN ’85-’94
