  1. I was guessing bumper skitchen as we called it. School buses were the best. Ride home from school in snow cause people weren’t pussies back then.

Exit, slip around back on side with no mirror, squat, grab bumper and away you went to the next bus stop. Walk home because you weren’t a pussy.

  2. Pffffff.

Try -25, in the dark, wind out of the North at 20-35 Mph, and NO streetlights, trees, or even HOUSES. We navigated by Dead Reckoning (if you reckoned wrong you were dead.)
I never enjoyed Winter in North Dakota, where Hell froze over every November and didn’t thaw until April.

    • Did something similar. Temp about the same, the wind was blowing the heavy snow straight sideways, creating a whiteout condition. Having driven the road everyday for several years I was able to keep on the road. Wouldn’t want to try it again. Guess why I moved to Tennessee?

  3. We get rain like that. Its easier to drive in than show because you can ride the center line and listen for the refelectors under your left-side tires.

  4. Suppose to get down to 17 here near Pensacola with wind chill in the single digits. Might be a good time to fire up the burn barrel in the back yard and kick back in a chair with some hooch.

  5. It’s 9:40 am, it’s snowing picturesquely. Because of the hill we live on, leaving is easy, getting back, not so much.
No problem getting wood, dealing with chickens, dogs love it…for awhile.

  6. So far, as of 11:00 CT, we have dry fluffy snow, was pretty heavy an hour, but ago now tapered off. Maybe just under an inch on the ground. Before it lightened up some, visibility on the road was barely a thousand feet. This is just the opening act, of course. Thankfully, I’m done for the day and am now home.

  7. And I’m waving at y’all from the Phoenix Metro Area, remembering one more reason why I abandoned the middle of the country more than a decade ago. By the way, we haven’t had our two weeks of ‘winter’ (temps around freezing), so I suspect it is going to be a scorcher this summer.

    • I like heat but when I flew in and got to hotel the temp outside at exactly midnight was 100. Nope not for me. Nice to visit but not to stay.
