I have 10 of ’em, and love ’em all.
It is a true tell about a person’s nature.
I know some of y’all treat them with a grocery store rub. Some animals are more rubbable than others.

Hi Glenn!!, some years ago I moved from CA.,,, to N.C.!! with a aerospace co. Needed to get a permanent residence (renting at the time) my “Agent” a lady just a year older than me and I became good friends when out an about looking at houses…. One day I took her “Fishing” .. had the key to a large private pond…I had access to… we caught a bunch of fish and took them to my house and I cleaned, cooked and we had dinner.. bak trac a second or two … I had 3 cats that I brought with me from CA.!! Needless to say when we drove up to my house the cats were there as my “Welcoming Committee!!!”” got things going , fed the critters and on…. “LATER” Peggy said…”If you treat me half as good as you treat those cats, we will get along Just Fine!!!…. Got a house, then after a while of Peggy and I still seeing each other… I ended up with no “Closet Space!!! (she moved in all her Business suits and all else!!!!!) Together for 13 years …Married for 10 and lost her to Pancreatic Cancer!!!! …………………….

PS…… When Peggy died… the cats didn’t know what happened.. They moped around.. Meowed a lot and just generally “Grieved!!!!”… After a while, they seemed to mellow out.. but you could tell they missed her!!!!

Skybill sorry for your loss, cancer sucks. Lost Mom to pancreatic in my twenties, then Dad and brother years later to other cancers. Prayers up for all concerned.
one other thing, ALWAYS trust your dog when they do not like someone.
that is one true thing i have learned with my dogs. if they don’t like someone.
there is a damn good reason for it.
funny thing, if there a guy on the street with a dog , he always get a few bucks from me. one thing I have seen is they feed their dog BEFORE THEY EAT THEMSELVES. but you don’t find too many like that really.
