New CEO inherits Cracker Barrel still recovering from rebrand backlash

Cracker Barrel announced on Monday that CEO Julie Masino will step down from the role this summer, with David Deno set to take the helm of the company on Aug. 10. The move follows a slow recovery from the attempted rebrand.
With a mandatory picture of the dumb Yuppie wench.
Cracker Barrel’s stock is down about 18% from a year ago, remaining well below its pre-rebrand levels.
“Comparable store restaurant sales decreased 2.6%, which included a traffic decline of 6.7%,” said Cracker Barrel CFO Craig Pommells. “Although traffic remained negative, we are encouraged by the gradual improvement in the underlying trend.”
This after her disasterous decision to “Rebrand” the restaurant chain and get rid of all the folksey decor.
People voted with their feet immediately and the chain came close to failing completely. Public outrage finally got loud enough that someone over her head decided to pull the plug on her experiment but by then the damage was done.
So good riddance to this dumb broad.
Maybe she can go somewhere like Planned Parenthiood and see how bad she can fuck that up.
At least she would be doing the rest of us a favor.

CB isn’t my favorite restaurant but the local one was pretty good and the employees all had a friendly attitude. You have to be pretty good because that’s the only way a restaurant can make it here in this area.

In a sane world, every knucklehead who goes around trying to fix things that aren’t broken would lose his/her/their/its job. If they have nothing better to do than that, then the position they hold is unnecessary and should be eliminated. Immediate cost savings!
The guy that’s replacing her isn’t much better. Another corporate wunderkind who doesn’t have a clue.
Here’s where he’s been: He was CEO of Bloomin’ Brands from 2019 to 2024. Before that, he spent 15 years at Yum! Brands, where he served as chief financial officer and chief operating officer. He also worked as CFO of Pizza Hut and started his career at Burger King. He is currently a board member at Krispy Kreme and Panera Brands.
Ask yourself this question: If he’s THAT good, why has he moved around so much?

Look at the recent (last several years) performance of almost all of those restaurant brands you just listed, and this guy’s record as a corporate executive in that space really doesn’t look so hot.
Most of these types are like cockroaches. They operate in the dark (with minimal oversight and scrutiny) until they shit the whole place up so bad it needs to be gutted to the bare walls, or outright burned down. But rest assured, they got theirs, and managed to sneak out quickly when the lights got flipped on, thus assuring their survival to go and shit up somebody else’s house in the same fashion.
As the product of modern American business schools, they really suck. The number of companies these parasitic pricks have destroyed from the inside really is breathtaking.
The thing that bothered me was not that Cracker Barrel tried to change the logo and redecorate. The thing that bothered me was that Cracker Barrel had been sponsoring and promoting ghey events and pride parades for years, while trying to pass themselves off as wholesome, old fashioned and family friendly. I could live with a different logo, but I don’t like being lied to (and laughed at as a rube probably). I will never set foot in a Cracker Barrel again.

I saw the announcement yesterday. You just have to laugh, they fire one woman only to hire another one. It’s like voting or prime minister’s. One slithers out, the bring in another snake.

Throw out all the corporate pre-made mixes, hire a bunch of grannies, and make the food from scratch. You’d have to raise prices, but it’d be worth it for the great increase in meal quality.
