  1. No. Just, no.. Because I can.
One of t he MANY reasons I will not buy a new car.
IF (and that’s a big IF) I had one of these, I will bypass it
The most intelligence I want is the Fuel Computer. A *dumb* one.

  2. I have bought 2 new vehicles. I don’t plan on buying anymore. My current car is a 2008 Pontiac Torrent. A nice enough car, but I have put a LOT of money in it to keep it running.
When it finally dies, I likely will look to buy an older car and not a newer one. While at my age, 65, I don’t work on my own cars anymore, the older vehicles to me just take away some of the extra cost for things like super computing crap that I don’t need.
If they want to go cash for clunkers, I will be advertising to buy one of the cars that is being junked before it’s time.

  3. Clunkers are a status symbol in japan… The govt charges huge fees for anything not up to their standards. Wanna drive a 55 chev? Get your wallet out and pay the piper!

  4. Wow, sounds great! Wonder if I could get this cool kid stuff retrofitted to my ’86 Toyota pick up. Shouldn’t cost more than 40 to 60 thousand.

  5. Ford n GM have both played the “it’s our data” game for YEARS. I dunno bout Chrysler, so I can’t say shit.
Cops used to go to the car company to get the car data. Speed, braking status, GPS n times. It was their data to give out as they felt and that was usually just the onboard stuff.
Ford used to lock out the tuners anyway they could. At some point they backed off a bit, but it might be like Deere backed off on their lockouts. (kinda sounded good until you tried to do something)
I’d love to have a pre-73 pickup, but Mother Nature and road salt make that kinda difficult in NJ. I saw a 70-something Honda that someone was trying to keep running and on the road in the early 80’s…More holes than fenders. There was a Chevy LUV pickup around the same time. We expected it to fall apart any day. I don’t remember the year (late 80’s??) of the Dodge pickup my kid thought was gonna be a great project until he started to actually try to turn nearly any bolt on it.
They want to keep us locked into their market and don’t like it if we try to wander.

    • I have a 2000 Chevy pick up, only way “they” can access my data is by going into a dealership and hooking my truck directly to their computer and download and I haven’t been back to a stealership since my warranty expired.

  6. I expect that sooner (rather than later) the fedscum will Mandate (for SAFETY! of course) that No Vehicle manufactured before about 2020 will be allowed to be registered/licensed by any State.
    Then, it’s ‘Mad Max’ Time….
I’ve already got my 1979 AMG M-35A2 (whistler) Deuce all Serviced and Ready to Run, on Waste Oil and Trans Fluid from all the Cars without Gasoline…
