Yes

Three weeks with some kind of chest cold, me and the wife hacking and coughing.

Juust started to maybe get over that shit and loaded a bunch of crap in the back of the truck Sunday to take to the dump, woke up Monday feeling like death warmed over again and went right back to bed.

I basically slept 32 of 36 hours between Sunday and Monday and couldn’t tell you what was wrong other than I felt like crap and couldn’t stay awake.

Got up and went to work this morning, stopped at the dump after work to unload one truck, still have another one full and ready to go, think I’m gonna put my feet up and go to sleep again.

I have zero fucking energy and about the same for stamina.

One of these days maybe I’ll start feeling human again but I’m thinking it won’t be before they fix the circulation in my legs.

Oh yeah, haven’t had a cigarette since the day before Mother’s Day so I went through withdrawals while sick with the chest cold just for fun.

One fucking day at a time at this point.

My thanks to everyone inquiring about how I’ve been feeling, now ya know and thanks to CederQ for keeping the joint open.

  1. Glad to hear about quitting the cigarettes. Best thing you could have done…it will help you to live longer.
That way we can get more of your stories!

Actually, in my nursing life, I’ve seen with those that have quit, what could best be described as a “whole-body purging”.
Once you quit, the body seems to rally and tries to expell those bad by-products of smoking.
Unfortunately, the body tries to get rid of “it” all at once.
You my friend are in for about a month of rough sledding…or shedding, as the case may be.
But hang in there. Your taste and smell will slowly change for the better.

  2. Zinc and Quercitin, Beets and lots of water, and at least a month as Steve said. It took over 2 months for my lungs to start clearing out when I quit. You can do this, Brother.

  3. “quitting smoking is easy, I’ve done it a million times” Mark Twain.
Hang in there, it really is easy if you put your mind to it. If you take up a new hobby, like naked karaoke, it becomes easier.

  4. Life sucks. Yes, quitting cigarettes will give you some time. I never liked the idea of sucking on a tube to get enough air.

Getting old is not for the weak.

  5. The theme fits perfectly with being old. You get born, you live, you die.
Such is existence on the Blue Marble.

Such a Bluebird of Happiness, eh?

  6. Fresh Greek Oregano a large sprig every 4 hours or as needed. Your symptoms sound like the Pre-School Death Crud we had after picking up our Granddaughter. 2 weeks of misery for the wife (i got a mild case) and she was harvesting herbs to dry, ate a sprig and was basically recovered in 24 hrs.

    Get better!

  7. I had the circulation fixed in my right leg about 3 years ago. Since then I have been able to feel the pain from my sciatic nerve in it much, much better. Barely can walk now it hurts so bad.

  8. Congrats on getting off the smokes. Might as well do it while you’re already feeling shitty – that’s my take on it.

  9. Keep paying yourself for the smokes. Get a jar and dump in the price per week. You’ll be rich in a few months. That’ll help take the edge off.

Yeah, sucking on a tube to breath isn’t fun. I didn’t smoke on purpose, heard my dad coughing up lung biscuits every morning helped me decide early on. I got pneumonia and ruined them anyway. No guarantees in life, you pays you money and takes your chances.

After a bit, take that jar of money and buy some more bits, cutters, sand paper or what ever to start that machine shop in the garage. It’s handy to be able to make a little extra on the side, or win a friend or two doing a solid for them.

    Carry on you magnificent barstewerd.

  10. I see you get lots of advice,
    I’d like to chime in,
    I vape.
    I was a 40 year smoker.
I’ve been vaping for ten years, my lungs have cleared up, I no longer cough and I can take stairs 2 at a time.
AND I still get the nicotine in need , PLUS it’s dirt cheap.
It took a bit of getting used to, but now the smell of ciggies makes me gag.

One last thing, ester “c” is amazing . Take huge doses of it to feel good
    (10 tablets plus)
    it can’t harm you,
    it’s a decent price,
it will aid with feeling better than you did,
    kinda warm inside,
and can give you a boost of energy.

Us old guys gotta stick together.
    Your pal
    Scott.

  11. still smoking here, but I roll my own and fuck the tax.
funny how every time I go see the VA doc she tells me I live 10 years longer if I quit
smoking. yeah, right. I tell her, who in their right mind wants another 10 years of pain ? anyway, it is the only vice I have left. so.
tried to quit a number of times, did well for almost 7 months until a buddy stop by with some really good booze and cigars one weekend. and it was off to the damn
store again. now a days, I don’t care all that much about it.
I might drink a beer once every 6 months of so. have a couple of bottles of good scotch that I might take a taste of once or twice a year.
anyway, I do hope this goes well for you. and did you get your ass down to SSD yet ? god knows you paid into it for all those years, might as well before they give the money to some illegal asshole.

  12. Yes one day at a time. Hang in there brother if you fall off the wagon get right back on saying a prayer for you.

  13. sounds like you got what they are calling hmpv.
no treatment for it but to ease the discomfort and symptoms till it goes away.
i use big doses of vits C and B12 for stuff like this.
that’ll at least make you feel like you’re being cured.
    good luck

  14. When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on! 😆
Glad you quit the coffin nails. I used to do 5 packs of Pall Malls a day. Plus a tobacco addiction.
Listen to your body and rest.
    Take care of yourself.
    Catfishbrody

  15. Good on ya! ODAAFT (One Day At A Fucking Time). Oh and BTW, Carpe Diem. Google “liver purge” and try to do that to hasten the withdrawal time line.
