  1. I remember an episode on “Frasier” where he was getting his toilet fixed. The plumber told Frasier that he used to be a Doctor before he took up plumbing.
I met my high school English teacher at a super market one day. I walked up and introduced myself. Naturally, she didn’t remember me. She asked me what I did for a living. I told her I drove a tractor trailer delivering new cars. You could see the look on her face that looked like some how I failed at life. I took exception to it. I told her I was a Teamster trucker for better than 20 years, I owned my own home out right and put both my sons through Pitt and was driving a relatively new Corvette. She said, “oh, you’re a Teamster, you probably make more money than I do and I have a masters in English. I said, “yeah, but I work for a living”, and walked away.

  2. In my day trade Class was the afternoon of the day, shop class, body shop, welding, drafting, WTF are they teaching today?

  3. My youngest is graduating HS on the 29th, and has gone through the entire Machining course at the local tech concurrently. All paid for by the public school district. F/T job starts at $20/hr on June 1st.

    • Good for him/her… Good on you for supporting your child. I would look fondly on being an 18 year old working for $20 bucks an hour. I could have bought a new car and within a year have enough for a down payment on a modest house when I was 17. I was making $1.75 an hour working on a cousin’s small farm with cattle, goats, sheep and pigs and also hauling hay and didn’t get paid for the ride along in the truck until we delivered and stacked the hay

    • Outstanding. With that kinda attitude, he’ll be running that joint or a different one just like it before you know it.

My first job was washing pans in a donut shop for 60 cents an hour after skool. I lasted a week. Daddy said, now do you understand what I’ve been trying to tell you?

      • That’s how you do it. Our oldest son had a similar experience at Taco Bell. He is now an assistant super with a construction management company in Dallas, TX
