  1. One of my people did that with 4,000 volts at 20 amps. Turned off the shop’s electrical system. It did not kill him, thank goodness, but it put a hole through him that went from his tongue to his arm. It did not cross his heart, he lucked out. However, off the sick bay we went, he spent about two days in sick bay so that could see if there were any other damage caused by the voltage and amperage. We made him collateral Safety Petty Officer for the shop. So he might learn other ways NOT to do stupid stuff. Lots of entertainment during our cruises during nam.

    • My worst was 45KV at 25mA – it was the aquadag on a 1955 RCA color TV.
It felt like a sledgehammer had been applied to my right arm, especially the elbow.
      Somehow, I lived. I think.

      • Oof. Got bit by HV from a 27″ Trinitron CRT once while trying to adjust the IF stage on the integral tuner. Don’t think I even make direct contact, pretty sure a spark jumped a small gap from my hand to an HV point on the circuit board, so I likely didn’t take the full brunt if it. Still hurt like an absolute bitch.

Never did care for working on TV’s, stuck mostly to solid state audio gear. Have done work on tube amps more recently, but those always make me a bit uneasy, as the voltages and currents present are well into deadly range.

  2. You cannot fix stupid. Anyone that knows anything about electricity knows you do not touch it to the body. This person does not know what he is doing.
