The data centers are needed to power the digital surveillance state they are installing….
You need a lot of room to store everything people say around their phones.
1. Because companies need disaster recovery systems away from HQ
2. More and more cloud offerings (Salesforce, Canvas, etc.) need hardware
3. Social media applications live on servers and storage.
The ‘cloud’ is other people’s computers in their building, nothing more.
Oh gawd, you believe what they tell you? How old are you, 12?
It is true, but that’s the cover story.
Considering I work in IT selling servers and storage I see this as a fact of life and a source of business. We work with every tier of business and government below the Feds in Southern California and every one wants a DR site on the other side of the San Andres fault.
AI datacenters are an entirely different animal and the blast radius when the AI bubble finally pops is going to make the Dot Com collapse look like a mouse fart.
254 counties in Texas. I hope that 413 claimed number of data centers in Texas is bogus.
Personally I despise them.
1 Trillion dollars of our tax money to spy on us. Digital prisoners funded by ourselves. We are literally funding our own enslavement. Jesus Christ is the only escape. Turn to Him the creator and He will give you hope for eternity.
My company has racks in one data center, we should have two again before fall. One of our customers has racks in 4 data centers and three AWS locations. Two reasons: 1) redundacy in case of a catastrophe in a single city, and 2) better response time for users because they’ll be directed to the closest d.c.
Imprisoning 350,000,000 citizens 24/7/365 requires a lot of electronic connections.
Too much zinc in pennies for two rabbis to pull from Brooklyn to Tel Aviv, so the spy-hubs are built here.
Why? They are wanted by the tech billionaires who are currently in China with the crypto president.
That President announced today that NVidia will be selling H200 chips to the Chinese.
Stupid move IMHO. The Chinese will copy the architecture and immediately start making their own while improving the architecture to H400 and beyond just like they did with most of the original U.S. engineered chips that they now make in China.
Xi will not honor any agreement that the USA and China come up with. The only leverage we have with them is controlling their oil flow and ocean trade routes, which are pretty powerful, but will probably result in war if actually implemented. Then, if the Demonrats ever come to power in DC again, we’re fucked because they’ll cave, feckless bastards that they are.
You are overly optimistic about the US ability to restrict the flow of oil to China. They are flush with cash from their massive trade surpluses. We may stop the gulf oil but there are plenty of other sources like Russia and any number of our former allies like Mexico and Canada.
After all the shade Trump has thrown at them, do you think they will work with us? Before Trump, China knew we were backed by Europe and the 5 Eyes. No longer. You can’t shit on your friends and expect them to be there when you need them.
Takes a lot of data centers to illegally spy on 350 million Americans.
Sorry hadn’t seen your comment before I posted.
Biggest LOL here is that here in Virginia there are 600+ and just across the line in West Virginia there are 7. Why so many? Because the government zoning lets them and their required infrastructure happen. Why do they do that? Grift! They appear to build jobs because (temporarily) them things don’t build themselves. Secondly they are a constant income stream for the government in taxes. Win, Win as long as you don’t mind turning your lovely countryside into a dystopian landscape. The last laugh will be when Elon and friends move this function out to space and all these large useless building become Virginia’s version Sotsgorod.
They need the concrete floors and water plumbing to make gulags for all the people that resist their agenda2030 and 15 minute cities.
330,000,000 people, lots of data.
The largest data center in the world is in Hohhot, China, and is 230 acres.
Utah just approved the building of a 40,000 acre data center.

That’s 62.5 square miles.
WTF are they ACTUALLY doing on that land?!
