I’ve heard some of these stories before, particularly the latter one about the shooting incident. Guy had a serious temper, which is kind of funny when you contrast that with his public image as the wholesome old man in the white suit and bolo tie.
My first job I ever had, couldn’t get the stink off me after working there a week. Never ate there again. Been building boats since & about to retire from that.
Yeah, food service is a tough gig. Fast food especially. I never did it; my high school job was in retail, which is almost as bad, but without the stink. My youngest brother worked at a ok,za place, and always came home from work permeated by the odor of pizzas baking.
To be fair, he was never promoted to General so he was a bit cranky.

He used to sit me on his knee and tell stories about him and my Grandpa.
They ordered Model Ts from Sears, assembled them and hopped them up to outrun the revenuers while running shine up to the godless Yankees up north.
Sort of started Nascar, got famous from fried chicken.
