  1. We had a one ton flatbed Chevy truck that had a toggle switch on the dash that was connected to the solenoid back on the farm.

  2. I drove Fords. Their solenoids were sitting on the fender well. I used the butt ends of the handles of uninsulated wirecutters to make that jump!

  3. The only problem now-a-days is that starters have permanent magnets, not a wound coil. Beating them with a hammer shatters the magnet, disrupting the proper alignment of the magnetic field in relation to the armature. Now, it is completely junk.
    There were times where I had to park my truck where you get it to roll, then bump start it. Did that for a month one time, until I had enough money to replace it.

    • You too? I was a starving college student with a ’67 327 Chebbie Camaro. Sometimes I had trouble finding a good enough slope.

      My wife can’t figure out why I’m so good at it.
