Weekly Grocery Run, $330. OPEN THREAD

What are vittles costing you guys across the country?

Yeah, it’s getting worse but some of that was actually stocking up on things we have been having trouble finding for months now.

Like the Caffeine free, sugar free Coca Cola we get for our autistic son.

Can’t have the caffeine because of the seizure medicine he has to take every day and The Wifely Unit watches his weight like a hawk.

I saw a quote from some farmer last week saying we had best be prepared to be spending another THOUSAND dollars a month on top of what we are already paying come the end of Summer.

Gas is anywhere from a low of $5.15 to $5.69 a gallon locally.

I haven’t seen any completely bare shelves at the store lately but I have noticed many items aren’t there. They are mixing things up to cover it.

I have also noticed they are putting the same product in different sections trying to hide it too,

Yet according to FJB, we have the best economy since WWII and the price of gas is still Ukraine’s fault.

Like he would know anything.

That brain dead fucker doesn’t even know where he’s at anymore.

So what’s going on in your world these days?

  1. Fuck joe biden. We spent over $500 bucks on nonfood items last week. Fuck joe biden. Nothing frivolous but stuff we normally purchase. Fuck joe biden.

  2. Well, Phil, here on the RIGHT side of the state we don’t notice much difference, other than the ridiculous prices of gas, which we trundle across the Idaho line to get. Since we don’t drink or smoke and don’t consume much more than milk, water, and a few drink flavorings, all we have to go by is meat and milk and bread prices. At the moment they haven’t doubled, but that will happen soon.

Being a retiree on a fixed income, I’m not looking forward to the oncoming feces storm! Other than having to cancel a trip back to Illinois to see my only son and his wife, not much has changed. Oh, yeah, the “value” of my house and property went up by 83K per the County auditor. Utilities are more expensive as well. Gotta keep the tax man in the luxury to which they are accustomed, y’know…

    Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze.

    • Well well well – I see BiteMe just raised Medicare prices…
      Squeeze squeeze squeeze.

  3. not a weekly grocery run but a normal one, bj’s in ne Pa 732.00 dollars.. never spent that much, we have a store in the basement so I know how much it cost to restock. this was a 200-250 more than a shopping trip.. this trip was for dog food 106 bucks and odds and ends.. I’m used to spending500 on our trips..just FYI

  4. I paid $60 to fill the tank with 12 gallons of fuel today. I did overhear the tanker driver talking to the gas jockey about E85 fuel. Most of the pumps, storage tanks, truck tanks, and fueling stations do not have the equipment to handle E-85 and the fuel is mixed at the fuel farms. According to spending tools I am paying 36% more for food the past 90 days over a year ago. Last year this time was 11.5% higher than the previous year and 2.7% over the previous.

    FJB

  5. I used to be able to fill up the Fusion for 25-30 bucks, mid-grade gas. Now? 87 Octane 50.00. Groceries, they go up a bit every week. FJB!

  6. Out here in the Bay Area] of CA, paid $6.89/gallon yesterday. Bought a loaf of “good” sandwich bread- the kind that has acutal food ingredients in it -$5.99. 2 days later the bread had mold all over it and had to be tossed… And as of this last March, my rent went up by another hundred bucks a month. Good times.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

  7. I would say my weekly grocery bill is up 30 percent in the last 6 months. I don’t eat a lot which helps, and it’s just me and the wifey unit, and 3 perpetually starving black Labs (there is no wasted food here). I did buy strip steaks at Wegmans from the butcher counter at $9.99 a pound Thursday, which isn’t crazy, Last year they were 8.99/lb.

  8. Just saw this video last night. I wondered why our local Meijer was having so many sales on pork. This explains it, and why we will probably be seeing empty meat shelves in August: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2FGMg88YsU&list=PLajdAQyF6307spGIUMy8LrnKzLqizuq4I&index=125

She’s reading a comment that was posted to one of her other videos. The actual comment starts at around minute 2:20. Less than 10 minutes, but VERY informative. Worth the watch. Warning from a farmer!

  9. don’t have actual details of the changes in my costs, but know for a fact, I am now living paycheck to paycheck for the first time in 20 years. 2 years till retirement (yes, no, maybe?) and I’m back to paycheck to paycheck living.

  10. Phil,
The most amazing thing to me is that bourbon hasn’t gone up.
I guess it’s a “bread and circuses” thing
What I am seeing is the price of the low cost options has gone up, but not the premium stuff.

  11. Gas prices are the same over this way, last time I saw the price of diesel at the local mini mart, it was 6.49, FJB

Some grocers have the out of stock tags on shelves, more that two weeks ago, without serious research there is no determining what item is not available from week to week. Last grocery run was only 100 dollars, but I didn’t need a lot.

  12. Regular gas in Saskatchewan is now $7.80/US Gallon.
Regular ground beef has tripled in the past six months to $4.99/#.
    Chicken is $6.99/#.

And I have been informed if you provide the carcass…..
Politician is now $275/# because the butchers have to clean the bastards first.

  13. Sweet Little wife went a couple of days ago, and came back really pissed at how much things have gone up in the last couple of months.
Her weekly grocery run has gone from around $150 to around $220, about a 50% increase.
I take the hit every time I go to Home Depot or Lowe’s. Stuff that was $3 last year is $6 now. Likewise, some things that were under $30 last year are $55 this year.
I’m trying to get her interested in home food preservation, but all she does is groan and say “TOO much work!”.
I wonder how much a big jar of some home canned (properly done!) veggies will be worth in, oh, say…two years?

    • Jim I bought a decent dehydrater a long time ago because my wife has the same attitude.

When the garden comes in that thing will sit on my back porch to keep the heat out of the house running 24/7

Big Country reported on on freeze dried brands of prep food all having doubled since the first of the year. That’s only 6 months, crazy.

  14. My gas cost has doubled. My favorite lunch meat is up 52%. My eggs are up 60% so far. Trump was right. FJB and every son of a bitch that cheated/voted for him and that airheaded bimbo. You are not my countrymen. Die in a fucking fire.

  15. Here on Johns Island gas is 4.69. Our challenge the last few weeks is livestock feed, finding oats about once a month and dairy goat feed is beyond iffy. Spending about an hour each evening chasing feed online. We have our own milk and eggs and the garden is peak right now so not many trips to the store.

  16. Local low calorie gasoline @ $4.54/gal this a.m. when I filled up (Texas). We have a table at the local farmer’s market. Can still get veggies pretty affordably from the locals and high quality/fresh is a boon for us (retired). The missus pickles various veggies and sells them so our stock of food remains impressive in case there becomes a need to consume rather than sell. Also have a 10 gallon ice chest that I’ve been filling with dry goods (beans, rice, flour, sugar) along with the used silica gel packs that come with some moist grocery items to help stave off rot. Last grocery bill was Tuesday, $138 which included a 5% senior discount. Included some “coupon” doubles like two jars of peanuts for the price of one (checked the expiration dates – Dec’22, so good to go on that). That $$ for the week has been about average for the last couple of months. The rancher we know has great quality meats that are locally processed but the pricing is about the same as the grocery store; we buy from him as much as possible. But the grocery store’s meat dept. puts out the almost-expired meats at about 2/3 off to get rid of them and we stock up on those; we get there when the store opens at 7am to take advantage. We make our own dog food so that keeps that cost lower as well as refills the freezer. Grocery store has a frequent flyer program and we get $0.10/gal off per $100 spent so I carry extra gas cans with me when the discount is at $0.30 or more/gal.

  17. Central Illinois…Gas $5.20 Most all foods 25% plus increase and rising. I may have to put my tool belt back on, and unretire!

    • Hey Bill … fellow IL *subject* here … I live in Lake County – about 40 miles north-northwest of downtown Chicago.
Gas is approaching $6/gal at most places. And speaking of gas .. watch for the amount of alcohol in “motor fuel” going from 10% to 15% … not all engines can run on that stuff, and if your ride is not spec’d for it, the 85/15 blend can cause serious damage.
Grocery bill is up *at least* 25 or 30 percent compared to about six or eight months ago.
Restaurant prices – through the roof.
Investments / retirement accounts – do NOT get me started.
Every person capable of critical thinking should understand that when as a nation we switched from being a net energy exporter to a net energy importer, prices of EVERYTHING would go up. It always comes down to energy …

  18. TC Michigan – Gas is 5.20. Eggs over 3 bucks. Butter 3.50 a pound. Milk 5 bucks. FJB I’m 68 and was going to retire full time at the end of the year. We were sitting pretty good but now I may need to work part time. We did a bigger garden this year. I planted 80 potatoes and lots more tomato plants. I worry for my children and grandchildren.
Joe – Next time you walk up the steps to your private plane, I hope you trip, fall backwards and snap your fucking neck.

  19. 87 gas was/is 4.99,9/10 or 5 bucks last week here. looking into non corn gas as e15 will fuckup your engine (I betting that’s what they want anyway ) and
this damn truck/4runner is almost paid off. and I have plans for that 500 bucks per month I won’t have to give to the bank !
I shop the sales at the local Weis store, if you a vet, you can get 10% off on store brands on Thurs. their canned chicken is about the best tasting and looking I found so far. way better than Tyson or Homel brand, anyway. last year it was like 2 bucks per can , last time I went it was 2.50 per in a four pack. a lot of their brand food tastes just as good as the name brands do, so. why not.
it does add up ! last month I saved (?) close to 50 bucks on the bill.
ever since moving up here, I have bein stocking the larder deep !
phil, I have at least 3 cases of coffee here ! and I buy more every trip.
the wife thought I was nuts at first, now. not so much as she like the idea of going downstairs and just getting another something off the shelf.
picked up a new genny with electric start as the other one was a pull start. and after 3 pulls, I tell her to light a candle !
at the gas station, there are a whole lot of pissed off people.
funny how you used to see a few cars in town with biden/harris stickers on them.
not too much anymore as the owners have taken them off in fear of getting a ass beating. (penn state is not that far away ) as of late we try to see if we can find one while driving around town doing shopping/whatever .
last year, there where a lot more of them than now.
I think the whole J6 crap show is just trying to get away from the fact that they fucking the people. if they where scared then, with just people walking around and taking selfies, they will really shit themselves when people get fed up with this shit show. all the PR in the world is not going to hide the fact that people are going to be in a world of hurt this coming winter. no food, or heat or anything else..
don’t think they have enough guards to protect them for the coming storm of starving people. a lot of countries have fallen due to the lack of basic food, why should this one be any different ?

    • Did the same at my Weis in Western Maryland. Bought five cases each of different veggie for a grand total of 25 cases. Take 10% off for being an old retired military vet, and then used their buy four get one free. So all in total, spent $160.80 for all, works out to be .54 each. Now stocking up on aspirin and such along with canned meat. My neighbor had a bunch of plastic kitty litter containers and I use them for certain non-perishables to storage loose items. Wife laughed out loud when the five pounds of pepper and ten pounds of dried onions arrived. Currently working on my third storage cabinet and still have a well-house to go. And just for Phil, now up too 15 pounds of coffee. Probably still need another 15-20. I drink mine black and told the wife to get use to hers being the same. Just reminded myself I need more lead.

  20. Last Monday filled up the wifeys rig at 4.79 for the 93 octane at Costco Pearland. Tuesday filled up what I’m driving at 4.89 came home and since Harley was needing over 4 gallons went to closest gas station, Exxon, and spent 21.30 at $5.30 a gallon. Word is we could be around 6$ before it starts going down

  21. Just filled wife’s car, 8.035 gal and ov3er 40 bucks. It is at 5.019/gal now in SW MI.
Our weekly basket of food has crept up over time, 120, 140 now 150 and I am expecting 160 this week. Same stuff in the basket and god forbid if she adds meat to the list. Son and brood came down (2 hour drive) to enjoy the beach, just in fuel he is going to be spending 50 bucks. Insane.

  22. I paid $4.99/gal for Reg gas on Thursday. I’m single. Two years ago, my grocery bill was ~$50.00/WK which included a couple of stock up items. These days those same grocery items are costing $85 – $90.

  23. Yesterday, I paid $76.04 for 14.912 gallons of 87 octane at the Safeway in Lake Stevens, with $0.30 off per gallon. In my opinion, ALL voters for Fuck Joe Biden should give a blowjob to a .357 magnum…

  24. The infant formula shortage is real, this morning in one supermarket in Madison, Alabama there was about zero inventory. Zilch. Crickets.

  25. Like you, have noticed a lot of items have far less quantity available for sale. The items lined up in front of shelf, empty space behind.

Soft drinks are priced crazy, I’ve resorted to store brand label instead. 1/3 the price and taste is ‘close enough’.

Meat is crazy expensive, we’re stretching our meat (quit that giggling in the back !!) with adding into pastas or vegetables.

Going to be a long hit I think, a lot of people are gonna be pissed off by elections this November. Lets see how this shakes out.
