Sheeeeeit. Never had that much room. Dad had to control 3 boys in the backseat of the 4 door company sedan
We went through a succession of Chevy wagons, three Malibu’s
(of the rounded off body style of the late 70’s) and one 1983 Caprice Classic) in the “boxy” style pictured. After that last wagon, we went to Ford Aerostars (one in 1989, another in 1995. By the time the second Aerostar was done, both my sister and I were moved out on our own, and with just my two younger brothers, mom and dad could get by with standard 4 door sedans. Mom had a Taurus for a while, then a succession of various GM sedans. Dad passed away, so that was one less vehicle I the family going forward.
The Aerostar was recalled for all kinds of stuff, but was a lot roomier than the Thundercat-mobile, the 1982 Cougar Wagon. Lots of hockey trips in both of them.
Riding backwards while inhaling carbon monoxide…
Yup, that was the cause…
GMTA
Yep; everywhere. Seven of us in one station wagon so my little brother and I never saw where we were going, only where we had been for years
My grandfather called my younger brother and I Filly-Lou birds. Of course, they only fly backwards. They don’t care where they are going, only where they have been.
Had a 65 Impala wagon like that, then later in life a 77 in that EXACT color and configuration. Let me tell you, being able to carry 8X4 sheets of plywood or sheetrock in it with the ends flush with the dropped tailgate was the cat’s meow.
I should have kept the 65 but who knew back then (early 70’s) where things were going to end up in 2020’s……………….modern “family” vehicles are useless for real work and I don’t want a truck, spent too much time in the latter with work/hauling for others, my back and the fillings in my teeth know..
Weird or learned how to see things from more than one perspective?
Parents had a 1968 Country Squire. I got to sit tail gunner all the way from NJ to Florida. On the way back, I was bummed cause I got stuck sitting in the regular back seat so we they bought so many bags of oranges to give to friends n family.
Crazy ass multi function tailgate with a power window too.
Had an interesting detour on the way down in Georgia tho. That part of 95 was done n my parents felt something “funny” like the then new wagon had a flat or something when at speed.
They pulled off n asked around to find a Ford dealership. It was a BIG one by my dumb little kid POV, but they pulled the front wheels off n found some nice clean, pretty and ungreased wheel bearings. That got addressed pretty quickly.
