  1. The name of this holiday is “Independence Day”, not “Forthajuly”.

    We don’t do this minimizing treatment with any other holiday – Christmas, Memorial Day, etc. Yet, of all national holidays, this is the most important one. (Yes, I’m distingushing between national and religious observations.)

    I note that Nearly half (46%) of Americans don’t know what America’s 250th anniversary commemorates. We can blame shitty public schools, but maybe if the word “Independece” got used with regularity, some folks might get a clue.

  2. 6, maybe 8yrs tops left for this country. At most.
    And that’s if the out of space aliens don’t end it sooner than the across the border ones do.

    • I concur. I don’t think we make another 10 years as a going concern. The massive underlying problems (the dysfunctional government, the debt, the promises that cannot be kept as a result of it, and the general deterioration of civility) are all eating away at what’s left of an already weakened foundation. Collapse in some form is virtually assured by sometime in the 2030’s, if not even sooner.

  3. Peaceful dissolution would be preferable to what is surely coming if we continue to force this to stay together. Start by abolishing the Federal government, and see who actually wants to stay together.

    • It failed to be kept once Lincoln forced The Confederate States back into the union, and it was made clear the union was no longer a voluntary federation, but a compulsory one, with full scale military attack and death imposed on any state that tried to leave. This revoked the right of self determination, and made all a hostage to the federal government. In that moment, the great experiment was well and truly over.
