  1. It is a Ford Focus.
It will cost far more to clean the driveway than what the car will ever be worth. Running well or not.

  2. What the hell is that? Even with bad blow by, there’s no way you get that out of the exhaust. Yeah, it’s a Ford, so put a bullet in it anyway, but I’d still like some clarification on what causes that.

  3. Stick a fork in it. It’s done.

Might make a decent planter, otherwise it’s scrap.
On this side of the Atlantic, might be able to get a chop shop motor for less than the cost of a new car. On the EU side, I’m guessing it’s worse.

    Time for an insurance job.

    • Correction, all that crap is what was once IN the catalytic converter – from what it looks like, the entire core turned to slurry and out it came.

My question is what the heck caused that to happen. Modern catalytics are cores of honeycomb shaped linear cells open end to end in line with the exhaust, they have a very fine coating of certain valuable metals to make them work.

There is no major smoke or steam visible, so either that is all fake or something real interesting happened inside the converter.

Steam would be coolant going straight into a hot environment, smoke would indicate oil, all I see is black mud and minor exhaust. Wonder if the car was in salt water up to the floorboards for a stretch? .

      • Looks like someone had their airducts in the house cleaned and decided to put some Dawn as a fuel injector cleaner (would that even work?), or directly in the O2 sensor bung (pre-cat, Bank1 Sensor1) and we have a modern foamer.
