Thanks Again Les!

That would be Les Schwab tire centers, for quoting me $550 for two tires, mounted and balanced.

Remember?

I do.

Craigslist to the rescue again, I just went and picked up two more tires for $100.

That’s going to be all 4, mounted and balanced, for about $350.

They aren’t new but they are damn well good enough for my purposes.

As long as they hold air and stay round I’m golden.

  1. Right now I can’t afford bald tires, and it’s only gonna get worse.

If I get a bad tire on my Beaver, I’m gonna have to sell my wife to be able to afford ONE tire! (Not sure what a retread would run me, though…)

      • Squeak!

I’m spitballing, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find that the price is slightly north of $1,000 each!

  2. Phil, if you have a local tire shop that will mount “any” tire for you, keep him happy and fed.

Latest trend in Michigan is that all the big chains are REFUSING to mount any tire that is older than 4 years past manufacturing date. I have a set of brand new snow tires (Michelin no less) that came from a car that sold years ago, they are bloody new with the mold hairs still there. Because they are now 10 years old, none of the “big boys” would mount them. Had to find a local yokel in middle of the small town to mount and balance them.

Big chains are now lawyer driven, not service or common sense driven.

    • If those 10yo tires have been kept out of the sunshine, I’d use them too. But I’ve learned the hard way that tread means nothing on trailer tires in particular. It’s the sidewalls that degrade from age and UV exposure, and I’ve had them disintegrate on me with excellent tread–seven years old with a few ugly winters exposure on them.

  3. Yep 2 tires discount tire awhile back.

They do not do alignment. Went to there referenced local guy. Said I needed shocks and struts before they could do it. Total bill $2200. Fuck them drove off.

Having forgotten, one day saw my neighbors new place after he went out on his own from the chain bullshit. New shocks, tuneup which I needed, front end alignment, $1800.00 tipped him and his wife a hundred each to take each other out to dinner for saving me some bucks.

  4. Da fuk are you rolling in bear? A Landrover? That much fer shocks n struts + alignment is highway robbery! If it was a normal car/truck and not sum shit like a Bentley flying spur then you could’ve probably dropped a zero off the end and gottem on fleabay. Looks like I might be in the wrong line of work!
