Today’s cultural moment — metal edition

Anyone who has followed this site for longer than a month or two knows that when it comes to music, I could fairly be described as an uptight traditionalist. When this performance by Brazilian heavy metal artist Dan Vasc popped up on YouTube, my first impulse was to give it a miss, but curiosity got the better of me and I listened. To my astonishment, I ended up loving it. I hope that at least some of my readers will enjoy it as well.

Guy does have a voice, unlike so many screamers out there. I’ll always agree with Mark Twain that the best opera is sung in a language I can’t understand.

I’m pretty sure Dan Vasc is the same guy who appears occasionally on the YT “Friday Night Tights” show which is basically a bunch of comix geeks against wokeism and The Message (read that in your best Critical Drinker accent) in popular culture.
As for great voices, have a listen to Patricia Janečková.

Thanks for listening and sharing. Voice of angels, male and female, is mostly rare but yes he has a set of pipes and I am sure Heaven approves. Allison Kraus and Joanna Cotton are two of my favorite female heavenly voices. Old blue eyes Frank Sinatra also had a great voice.
