  1. a friend from high school, an airline pilot, took up welding as a hobby in his spare time ’bout 50 yrs ago or so; he produced a number of similar as goof gifts

    • Much like a Crescent wrench you can also adjust the size of the grip to get the most ‘bite’ on what ever your working on.

    • That was my take as well. And the pliers can be locked at the desired angle by tightening the locknuts on the ends of the threads. An improvement to this tool would be wingnuts instead of standard nuts to allow “no-tool” adjustment. That, and mashing the threads at the ends to keep the wingnuts from coming off the ends.

Someone did a VERY nice job on that thing, given it’s a MacGyvered tool! He probably had a repeated need for it.

  2. I think SOG used to manufacture a folding multi-tool sort of like this. The jaws flipped over the handle. Para-Tool I think was the name. Pretty sure it has been discontinued – haven’t seen one in a whiie.

  3. well, in that position it’s gonna ‘open’ when you squeeze the handles similar to c-clip tool….so that makes it some kinda spreader?

  4. I’d use that. Too many “ you can see it or touch it, but not both” designs in aviation. Now find a pair of needlenose safety wire pliers or a tool to spread a cotter pin in a 3/32 inch clevis pin….
