Round 2

There is still a shit ton of work to do here but I can only do it in small bites. The little beastie is up on jackstands and it still kills my lower back to work on it for more than a few minutes at a time.

This time I took better pictures so you can see why I am (attempting to) replace the floor board under the seat.

Yeah, it’s rotten.

Cutting that out with an angle grinder and a cut off wheel was quite challenging but I managed to get it done. There is a support strut under there that I had to cut out also that I didn’t get pictures of. I drilled out all the spot welds that it was holding on to the floor board and will now have to weld that back in first, measure and mark it so that I can line it up under the replacement and then drill new holes in the new piece to spot weld it back under the new piece. Like I said, there is still a shit ton of work to do. A little here and a little there as weather and my body allows.

  1. I replaced the floor pan on a 67 Mustang 25 years ago when I was 40. That was a miserable job. I could not do that job today. That Mustang was a money pit. Besides the floor pan it got sound deadener and new carpet, rebuilt and recovered seats, new dash, headliner, wiring harness, rebuilt steering linkage, suspension components, disk brake conversion, crate engine, and TKO 5 speed. I sold it breaking even for the money I had dumped in it. It still needed some body work and a paint job.

  2. Nice work man! Know the drill on pain an lack of energy. I’m on day 3 of wiring up stereo head unit . 3 fucking days yup !

  3. Ya wouldn’t let me steal the Sprite a few years ago, so I bought a B a couple weeks ago. Miseryl love company, my friend. The guy I bought it from went to the Twist & Tape School o’ Wiring. I’ve pulled 15 lbs of unused, unneeded, badly installed 12 gauge wire out so far, all of it still live and going to nothing. The 2 amp radio curcuit had a 35 amp fuse in it; the rewired 10 amp electric rad fans didn’t have one at all. Just a wire taped to the dash lights, run through a small switch to the fans using 16 guage wire. Hurts my aircraft mechanic head.

    • Hurts to read it, too.
What’s with the Retards that think they can rebuild cars with bailing wire, duct tape, and spit?? Good Lord.

      • You another over achiever? Little duct tape inside over the holes. Little duct tape underneath over the holes. Weld a couple bars under, cover with Rhino liner and done. Now I also am a over achiever. The Fiat Spyder never had problems like this. The only problem was the engine. MF rebuilt three times. Total mileage on three rebuilds……… 3 miles. Sold that bitch to a high school kid whose father had his own shop. He put a GM engine, transmission and rear end. Still see that yellow bastard around.

  4. I found filling in the small holes with a copper back plate helps a lot.
did a bunch of holes in a MGB-GT that way. they or someone used a shit load of screws to hold the carpet in place (??)
a trip to the scrap yard got me a lot of cut off of copper plate to use a backing plates. that was a big help alone. but if the steel was pitted like what you showing
I replace it as well. after my back blew out, that was it. game over.
I could get around or even bend enough to work on it anymore.
let alone get in and out of it !
ever try a product called “prep step” ? it a powder you mix with water and apply to bare metal to keep the rust away. Eastwoods sells it. I had very good luck with it over the years. I always mixed it with distilled water myself.
anyway, don’t kill yourself on this project.

  5. Little bites at a time till done(with this phase of the project car!)and soon no Flintstone braking!I am as I type bandaged up from just some more basic vehicle maintenance, yep,I think I have gotten “thin skinned”!

    • I can identify with that shit now and I also have to worry about bleeding to fucking death because of the blood thinners I have to take. I literally bump against something and leave a trail of blood behind me without even knowing it anymore.

      • Maybe when you were under they “changed” you. I hear they get lots of fedmoney for doing those. My Ex always was bleeding like that…….every time I wanted to get laid. Check the mirror to see if you have boobies and avoid getting busted by the cops on a no bail charge……….
