The US gov changed the payment formula for SNAP and the vast majority of recipients will go from $250 a month to $23…. now I feel that these programs are way too large and have too many freeloaders using them to avoid getting a job but startibg next month you will see riots when the giveme crowd that has lived their whole lives on these programs cant buy food. Does everyone remember the riots when the internet outage in 2019 delayed SNAP and welfare payouts 24hrs?

18 states already returned to pre COVID SNAP EBT amounts. The remaining 32 do so in March. And there is a big COLA increase in benefits in March, so there should be a net gain for most according to the govt……

So far there have been 5 objects.
The first two were Chinese launched balloons. China officially said they were both unmanned and un-powered weather balloons lost on the same day from the same facility.
One is the balloon that float through Canada into the US and buden shot down once it was past the east coast.
The 2nd one went way further south passed over Guam and then over south america
China admits to both of these and claims they were weather balloons. The story doesn’t add up, the two routes are so different i have a hard time believing the lost balloon story. Second the US one exploded just before it was hit by a missile, suggesting it had a charge to destroy it on board… a little odd for a weather balloon. Third China threatened to shoot down a US civilian aircraft in retaliation, again a little odd for the loss of a disposable weather balloon.
The third object was reported as cigar shaped and did not have a basket like a balloon, and over Alaska. China mum on this one.
The fourth one was shot down over the Canadian Yukon. Described as a drifting object by media. China quite.
The fifth was spotted yesterday over Montana but jets could not find it in the clouds and it has not been spotted again.
What I see is a pattern, they are testing response time and ability to detect them on radar / intercept them. We are giving the owners of the balloons real world data on low visibility coatings.
I’ve been wondering if the F22 pilots that are shooting down the balloons are going to get a balloon decal on their fighters noting the “kill” and how many they have to shoot down to get a balloon ace noted on their record.

Back in 1968, on a cold December evening, my brother and I launched a hot air balloon we had made from two balsa sticks, a large candle, and a very flimsy dry-cleaning garment bag that we managed to get without significant holes in it.
At the time, we were playing with RF generators, simple ones, and had found a circuit that would run a relaxation oscillator circuit that used a minimum of parts and would run off of a 9V battery.
Well, we stuck that oscillator under the balloon, and let her drift lazily upwards. Did I mention that we had determined the radar frequency that the FAA used for their Traffic Control for Eastern Washington? Oh yeah. We did.
They scrambled jets from Fairchild AFB to find the hovering object, and we learned later that the pilots never did find anything!
Probably because the candle burnt out by the time they got there and the 9V battery pooped out as well. Time unknown, but guaranteed for 10 minutes or your balloon back! Made the papers the next day. Heh.
Has to be a cold day, no wind, no precip. Conditions were PERFECT!
