Malt-o-meal cereals do come in resealable bags. Been buying cereal that way since the kids were small. Malt-o-meal cereal is also cheaper than the name brands that come in boxes.
I would bet it has to do with retooling costs and traditions.
Personally, I just use either a spring clothespin or, my current favorite, binder clips. Great in the freezer because when you fold down the handles, they don’t get knocked off as easily when rummaging around in there looking for something to fix for dinner.
Because they are not expecting you to “eat just one”.
