  2. If you have not read it, you might enjoy the book called, Nothing Like It In the World, by Stephen Ambrose. About the building of the transcontinental railroad. Excellent book!

  3. A great set, but you forgot to number them. Near the end was a version of the loco that was shot thru with cannonball, the people in the photo are pointing it out, but I have never seen that version before. Someone from time-life mag added the trees, normally the view is wide open.
    #6 is showing a fill, they needed to hurry up so built a trestle from the other side till they met up with the fill, soon they will fill to level, install track, then fill the whole trestle with dirt fill. All by horse and wagon and shovel.
    Steven Ambrose’ book is ok, but he gets a bit full of himself and repeats a lot of the same words.
    Overall, I think the set of pics posted are wonderfull, many I have never seen, and I own a lot of RR books.
