  1. That Shay is a beautiful example of a refined work engine
Can’t read what it says on the tender, but I’d suspect it’s a Western logging Shay, as it has 3 cylinders and an extended cab

    • You just know it’s a logging workhorse, because they were known for their low-speed torque – at the expense of top speed.

    • When I worked for Airgas we sometimes had to pull product (Nitrogen, Argon, CO2, Helium) from tankers and where taught not to vacuum the hell out of one and we had to climb on top of them and give the vacuum relief valve an inspection and pop it for operation. Of course CO2 had to have a vacuum line or you would be making dry ice in the tanker or the tank on your truck and the company took an jaundice eye and a pink slip in your immediate future for making dry ice prematurely… And, liquid O2 was an entire different gorilla and that is what I hauled mostly.

      • …and LOX is damn dangerous and unforgiving, too. The good haulers are OLD haulers. Kinda like Bomb Disposal people!
And, I might add, not a lot of difference between BD and LOX hauling.
