  1. Back in the 60’s, I was an engineering student working on a survey party, and I nearly got run over by an engine running on batteries. They are damned quiet. It got to within 50 ft of me before I noticed it, and I saw it before I heard it.

    • I don’t think I’ve seen a railroad shirt filled quite that way.
I’ve had several of them, and they can still be found at the farm supply stores.

  2. I have an old Hampden (I think) stem watch, grandpa gave it to me when I was eight. He worked on the railroad but never said which one. Perhaps the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railroad. Not too sure.

  3. Concerning DE’s (Diesel-Electric) engines, I studied field-excited DC motors for Electrical Engineering – fascinating how you can have an electric motor with the armature not turning, throwing many amps into the Traction Motors ad they don’t burn out! To me, this is the FUN part of Engineering!

    • Traction motors don’t burn out but they can put on quite the fire show when they lock up while in motion.
