Back in the 60’s, I was an engineering student working on a survey party, and I nearly got run over by an engine running on batteries. They are damned quiet. It got to within 50 ft of me before I noticed it, and I saw it before I heard it.
Another good set Cederq. How do I catch a ride on the Philly to NY train?
Is THAT why Biden always was riding the rails? Maybe sniffed her hair too.
I don’t think I’ve seen a railroad shirt filled quite that way.
I’ve had several of them, and they can still be found at the farm supply stores.
I have an old Hampden (I think) stem watch, grandpa gave it to me when I was eight. He worked on the railroad but never said which one. Perhaps the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railroad. Not too sure.
We’re getting serious now … assembling parts for (rolling) table for O ga. trains (3x 12″ wheels. Ply sandwich top, two sheets of 1/2″. And six foot length of stainless 3/4″ threaded rod, for the verts. Snagged at the junkyard today, twelve bucks! Will be a bitch to cut/section).
Concerning DE’s (Diesel-Electric) engines, I studied field-excited DC motors for Electrical Engineering – fascinating how you can have an electric motor with the armature not turning, throwing many amps into the Traction Motors ad they don’t burn out! To me, this is the FUN part of Engineering!
Traction motors don’t burn out but they can put on quite the fire show when they lock up while in motion.
