I drove myself up to the vascular surgeon’s office yesterday so they could pull 26 staples out of my groin and leg.
I also found out that giant sore on the bottom of my foot has finally healed up even though it is still tender as hell.

A little TMI for ya.
Then I had to stop on the way back and put some gas in the Big Red Beastie at $4.79 a fucking gallon. I put $40 in it and called it good, I’m not going anywhere anyway.
After that I had to stop and pick up some fucking pills before I could come home..
Speaking of pills, my Primary Doctor’s office called me 3 days ago to inform me that according to some blood tests from 3 weeks ago, I am now Pre-Diabetic and asked me if I would like to start taking another pill.
I take 12 fucking pills now every morning. I thanked them for the info and declined. We shall work on some dietary changes first, thankyouverymuch.
As it is, all I want to do is sleep all the time.
It never fucking ends.
In some Good News, I got woke up by a text from my son this morning informing me that we are Grandparents again. His wife had a baby girl this morning.
Very cool.
Whoo boy. At some point they are going to need the 80 grit on the grinder to smooth that out. Sounds like it was a success, faster healing means better blood flow and frankly am amazed you are already driving. Go easy and let stuff mend. Otherwise – atta boy, ornery as normal.
Soak that foot in white wine vinegar. I had a plantar wart that covered the entire bottom of my foot constant soaks and some heavy grit sandpaper & that sumbitch is gone.
Good news to hear Phil my brother, but I think Rambo could’ve done a better job slicing you open and suturing you up than what they did. Truly glad you are moving forward and healing up may each day be better than the last prayers are still up for you.
Chicks will dig it though.
Bear Claw, I used to wonder why surgeons did such sloppy jobs sewing people up.
I figured it out: Time. The less time you have the patient open, the better success because the body is in shock (LARGE or small) whenever surgery is performed. The cardiovascular systems, especially, don’t like us mucking around in there, so speed is of the essence. Blood flow, Y’know.
Heart surgery is especially time intensive, they stop the heart BRIEFLY to get it done, although there are wonderful bypass machines out there (thank you, Dr. Byrd!) that help keep that precious flow going.
So. Get in , git-er-done, get out. A “sloppy” or “ugly” stitching job is better than losing the battle, y’all. This ain’t Cosmetic Surgery.
Yer lookin’ good, Phil. Feeling better, right??
No, it is lazy as ass surgeons or surgery techs or nurses. I use to close all the time with/without the surgeon present(he always came back to check, it was his ass on the line) and we always trimmed and flattened the terminus of the surgical wound to promote healing and a better/stronger wound scar that healed evenly. We did not do hot dog Mash surgery. There is always time to do it right.
And chicks dig it Igor
Sounds like you are making progress. Congratulations on the new granddaughter. May she grow up to have a mind of her own like her grandpa.
For this discussion, the TMI is very acceptable, good to know you are starting the healing process, it will most likely be longer than you want, go with it.
He could have shown his groin suture line… I bet that would put the cringe on a few of you! I will admit that don’t teach much in surgery residency to make a pretty scar anymore. I do medical chart audits and some of the pictures look like out of a Frankenstein movie… Back in my day when I was a scrub nurse for Ortho/Neuro surgeon he made it pretty as that is his pride and craftsmanship.
Yep, came to say thank you for not showing us the other 13 staples and glad your doing better.
congrats g’dad!
keep on keepin on
The “experts” have put me on a pre-diabetes pill, too. Are they on commission, do you think? I’ve made dietary changes , too, so I expect my blood glucose to have dropped like a stone.
The reason they don’t try ‘diet first’ is because they say most people won’t change their diet to bring their blood sugars under control. Of course, if you follow the ADA diet, you won’t bring your blood sugars under control because the ADA diet is full of carbs. After you cut pasta, rice, potatoes, and bread to the absolute minimum, you probably don’t need meds.
Carnivore diet…
carnivore works wonders
The whites, Atkins diet been around a long time, I follow it mostly but to excesses.
Congrats, fellow Gramps! You gonna teach her all the GOOD words?
Kudos on the grandkid, Phil! As for the “incision,” what the HELL did that doc use; a CHAINSAW??? ZOUNDS!!! It almost looks like one of those fake things you wear at a Halloween party!!!
Yeah… Another pill… As Big Pharma says, “A cured patient is a lost customer… I’d DEFINITELY go with the diet and exercise first!
“some fucking pills” So you got some Viagra??
The hi-speed Viagra ointment seems to work pretty good.
It helps keep the blankets off of your legs.
Just glad to hear and see that you are doing better. Scar is a scar, but that $4.79 motion lotion for the buggy had to hurt.
Dear Phil.
Ceylon cinnamon is great for keeping blood sugar levels down, one does have to watch sugar intake. My husband was in the same situation as you, that being told he was pre-diabetic and doc wanted to start him on medicatin and have him prick his finger several times a day. Sufficit it to say I told the doc no f—-ing way. Start husband on wild harvest true cinnamon(ceylon) and he is just fine. He did have to give up sweets, had a heck of a sweet tooth. Lots of information online about ceylon cinnamon health benefits. Hang in there friend, the world is a much better place with you in it. Just call me Moose’s Mom( Been in healthcare for decades, saw the decline starting long ago with big pharma telling the docs what to do) I don’t take crap from anyone and that incudes people with DR in front of their names.
What was your job in healthcare? I was a nurse, like you am not impressed with an MD after your name, just a slightly more skilled plumber…
You’ll love a diabetic diet. Here it is in a nutshell; If it taste’s good, spit it out.
In actuality, lose the refined sugar and remember (in this case only); If it’s white, it ain’t alright. White bread, taters, corn, banana’s, etc. Anything with white flour is out. You are gonna get a whole education reading labels on EVERY GOT DAMN thing, to see if it’s safe. But it beats going blind or having your feet chopped off.
$4.79 a gallon? US gallon? JFC. I was pissed my local station here in central GA went up to $2.93 for regular on Monday.
Washington state gas tax is a killer and the gov wants to raise it yet again. Yes he is a demo greenie.
Glad to see you’re making progress!!
Congrats on being a gran-pappy again.
Stop over later… FFFF and such.
Congratulations Grandpa!
Now go take a nap.
Everything looking good, you’ll be doing the Turkey Trot in no time, yeah.
Thanks for the pics. Yeah, I’m a fan of gore. Reminds me, I’ve been meaning to send some to CederQ – just keep not doing it.
12 pills? Geez. I assume that will go down after a bit.
At least the 12 are pills and not suppositories…
So Glad to hear you are doing well Phil. Take care out there!
Do the change of eating dude- that grand kid is worth it- YOU are worth it. Hardcore.
Try rubbing bacon grease on the wounds. They don’t heal any faster but the scabs taste delicious.
You are a sick fuck.
I like you.
God Bless – glad to hear that you are progressing – keep it up you old fart!
Congrats both on the healing and the g-daughter. Having a little kid follow me around and call me “grampa” was the most alien concept I ever had to wrap my head around. Once I got used to the gig though, it turned out to be pretty cool. That little kid has more time in my flight logbook than my wife. Look on the side of most any kiddy carseat, and there will be a little sticker that says “approved for use in aircraft”. That made it FAA legal to let her be my “copilot”.
As for the diet to reverse diabetes, it’s actually pretty simple. Rule number one: CUT THE SUGAR!. I never wanted to have to read the fine print on food labels, but it is now required self defense. Even ketchup is almost a third sugar. Rule number two as stated in a previous comment here: Expand your definition of sugar to any and all refined carbs, “If it’s white, it’s not right!”
Congrats, Granpa!
And thanks for not showing us the other scars. From description, they sound awful.
Glad things are progressing better.

I’m glad you only showed one foot.
I’m also glad I’m not attracted to feet, yours look like the little toe is a Downy.
Glad to see you are moving along, healing up and have a bonus grandchild!
$4.79 per US gallon sounds like Trudeau is now in charge in your State. Converted to where I am, we are paying $3.97 USD per US gallon ($5.64 CAD.)
I’ll say this as a true friend would….Take care of yourself, do as you’re told and don’t do anything that would fuck up your recovery.
Oh, and congrats on the new grandbaby!!
Outstanding!
Serious congratulations on the new granddaughter. Also I am so glad that the serious wound on your foot is well on the way to being totally healed. Am so glad that things are on the upswing and I hope they keep going that way. Sorry to hear about the diabetes situation and knowing how hard it is to make diet changes, the wife and I will be keeping you on our prayer list. God bless you, Phil.
Good to hear you are up and about already.
