Igor’s first electronics class, he is the one facing away on the left…

His vast collection of vacuum tubes… sez’ we will be back to that level of technology soon enough.
He just loves looking at the pretty glow they put out…

  1. Cederq, so you’re saying they’d already invented electricity by then, that it wasn’t just some wacky sci-fi theory? Didn’t Igor fly a kite during an electrical storm, and forgot his house key was hanging off the kite, and he lost your 10mm socket? Now I’m confused, will Deathray ship any of his drugs to clear things up?

  2. I was pointing out a mistake the instructor made in the equation.

And, yes, I *still* have some of those tubes AND a tube tester for them!

Don’t blame ME if you can’t find your 10mm socket, buy some spares if you need to – while you still CAN, that is!

Got my own supply of drugs, I do…

  3. Many, if not most, of the current manufacture audio tubes are made in Russia or China but there are still many NOS tubes out there for audio and amateur radio gear. I have a footlocker full of spares for my tube type audio and ham equipment. The audiophools have driven up the price of audio tube to the sky.I
I visited the modern Western Electric website the other day and they have a survey going about what tubes you would like for them to make. I might pay too much money for a Western Electric 12AX7 since that’s where I started.

  4. The illustration IS the current level of technology in the high fidelity audio community. You can keep your awful sounding ICs and transwhatevers.

  5. Igor will be the only man with a radio and nothing to listen to. I have a tube mounted on a small block of wood from an old vendor. My kids will have to throw that great reminder away.

  6. The nice glow and the 60cps hum in the sound. I really liked those huge triodes used as the final stage in radio stations.
