I cheated and looked it up googley eyes. I knew it was some kind of plane, but not its exact name or purpose, which I will not reveal because I cheated.

Looks like a wood planer that my dad owned.
It’s a Spanish Geelgut from the 1700’s. They’re used to for giving Sea Horses their unique “S” shape. You insert the Sea Horse and push down on the lever.

Really isn’t cheating, more of a friendly way of telling you that using the name of it makes it easy, hopefully closing a loophole of sorts
It was used to raise a piece of wood about 3/8 wide, but still attached at one end……., then a nail was driven and the piece of wood glued back down
Hence the name ‘blind nailing’ because if done carefully, the nail head would be under the surface and invisible.
