GM Has Shit The Bed And Then Rolled Around In It

It isn’t JUST general Motors by any stretch of the imagination but they are far and away the worst and this isn’t something that started yesterday.

Here is a message saying they have issued a PARK AND DO NOT DRIVE ORDER for their 2026 SUV’s. Chevy, GMC and Cadillac’s are involved.

There is more bad news after the video.

Then there are these numbers for multiple issues.

GM has issued multiple recall numbers related to engine and powertrain failures, with the most significant involving the 6.2L V8 engine. The primary recall for the 6.2L L87 V8 engine is N252494000 (NHTSA 25V-274), which affects 597,571 vehicles in the U.S. This recall addresses manufacturing defects in connecting rods and crankshafts that can lead to sudden engine failure and loss of propulsion.

Other relevant recall numbers include:

  • N242454440 (NHTSA 24V-099): A recall for nearly 462,000 diesel-engine SUVs and pickup trucks (2020–2022 Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Escalade) due to a faulty transmission control valve that could cause rear wheels to lock up.
  • N252533510: A 2024–2026 GMC Canyon recall affecting 1,120 units due to incorrect software that may cause improper airbag deployment.

For the 6.2L V8 recall (N252494000), dealers will inspect the engine and either replace it or apply a temporary remedy involving higher-viscosity 0W-40 oil and a new oil fill cap if the engine passes inspection.

Cam and lifters failing prematurely, crankshaft bearings eating cranks, the numbers are staggering.

I have had multiple conversations with people over the past couple of months and I tell them flat out to avoid buying ANYTHING, newer than 2017.

If these recalls and Class Action lawsuits don’t bankrupt GM I will be amazed.

Of course they will go crying to Daddy Government for a Bailout if it does.

Maybe somebody should pull their heads out of their asses and go back to building machines that last, like they used to.

They did that for over 80 ears, maybe there is still someone around who remembers how to do that but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Yes, but is it good for the … uh, the … Okay, we’ll say “the transnational, vulture capital, child raping Epstein Class”. Is it good for them?

  2. Any oil that starts with 0W-?? is bad for your engine. The 0W rating increases mileage ratings for EPA ratings here is the US. Any other country will recommend a standard oil. Switch to 5W-30 or 10W-30 and your motor will be happier.
Part of the oil debate is because newer engines have tighter tolerances. However, the perfect engine tolerance would be one single oil molecule.

    • Recent action in the middle east has also damaged one of the only refineries (Shell) that produces 0W oils. Toyota has already issued a tech bulletin approving use of alternate oil types in some vehicles that use various 0W type oils, because it is already known that shortages in supply will be coming. This just places further pressure where it certainly isn’t needed.

Yet another problem brought to you by Trump’s itchy trigger finger (and Bibi’s hand up his ass).

      • There is a way bigger plan. Exposing Bibi. Massie has a green light to read the Epstein list into the record.
We could really use some crop dusters with bacon grease.

        • Ok, not sure if serious. To me, this just sounds like more “trust the plan” from about the midpoint of Trump’s first term. ‘Tis a wee bit too late to peddle that line convincingly.

    • Zero weight oil is the cause of far too many engine problems.
I could rant for days about the findings we had with the fleet (over fifteen hundred units) and all of the failures from zero weight oil – and that by the engine manufacturer’s admission after they altered their recommendation.
      Just say no

  3. Am I the only one that noticed that GM went to shit when they introduced Active Fuel Management in ’08?

  4. Ya want to FUBAR something? Have congress set your manufacturing standards.
I’ll stick with my ’93 GMC, 1500 Suburban, with yer basic 350 and old school 4 wheel drive for dependability. It also makes a handy dandy rain proof, lockable, truck.

  5. And to think I complained this morning because I gotta have a starter put in the ’03 Tahoe.

  6. “Maybe somebody should pull their heads out of their asses and go back to building machines that last, like they used to.”

You mean like Toyota and Honda?

    • Not so fast. One of my coworkers has a 24 Tundra and it just went back to the dealer because it debated out of nowhere. Even the Japanese manufacturers aren’t what they used to be.

  7. my 2003 chevy k1500 4wd with 5.3 vortex has been good for awhile. i can fix most simple issues, and parts are not too expensive.
no planning on getting any thing newer.

  8. When the EPA is disbanded, along with all the agencies involved with automotive emissions, fleet crap and so on, then what remains of the so called “big 3” can go back to making basic vehicles that don’t have all the crap on them. The so called “benefits” of all the regulation are almost nil and none of the business of government in the first place. If I choose to live where there are valleys that suffer from still weather on occasion, the so called “smog” is a temporary. condition. Claims it shortens your lifespan by x minutes/year or whatever comes out of a bureaucrats ass are meaningless. Risk is inherent in all systems, deal with it, give me back my ’65 Impala with a nice 327 and a modern 6 speed trans and all wheel disk brakes, no smog crap and basic electrics and seat belts, all is good. No on board computers, displays, tracking software or whatnot. Heck, I would be happy with a modern well designed carburetor, screw mechanical or electronic injection.

    • equally bad are the IIHS and NHTSA. if something’s only going to save 10 lives per year…well, i don’t think an extra $1 per car is worth it. i would say the same about a 100 lives/year condition. yet, those orgs demand that motor vehicles don’t kill anyone.

  9. “like they used to”

You mean like the diesel V8’s Chebby “used to” put in cars and light trucks in the 80’s? Teh Suck was strong in those as well.

    • Nah, I worked on HMMWV’s and know all about them Chebby gas engines converted to diesels – yeah they sucked and still suck but uncle sugar had/has no interest in funding a better power plant.
Then again, I will take a Cummins diesel in any flavor from the 60’s to the 70’s before smog and electronics crap. Heck, my 85 Benz W124 diesel with mechanical injection was a dream to maintain, just kept on going so long as rubber parts were replaced periodically (no plastic shit on that engine, thank the gods).

  10. Pre-2010 diesel, so there is no DEF requirement. Mine is a 2005 and I’ll keep it until the wheels fall off, then put them back on and drive it some more!

    • Yup, I am keeping my 2005 Passat TDI (B5) until they bury me in it. No fun to work on, but it runs and does not require DEF. The 2015 Passat B7 (owned for less than 2years) required DEF and was the finickiest diesel I have ever owned, got rid of it in short order.

  11. Ugh.
And here I used to think the damn rubber band timing belts were the worst possible thing.
Then they took that as a challenge.

  12. I gave them 10 years then said fuck you a long time ago. Early nineties one year they lost 4 billion. Never heard of any company losing a billion till many years later.

    • Chevy trucks for a long time, even when they were the most stolen vehicle. Finally said fuck em again, I drive a toyoty now

    • Augusta had to make her a member, GM CEO guaranteed one. I bet they cringed on that one.
