  1. you never have enough ammo. and it goes a lot faster than you will realize too
there is a reason why old guys put 3 tracers in each magazine first.
because as soon as you saw red, you ducked behind something and changed magazines out. a old and neat trick learned back in the 1/503 Abn, days
it just damn hard to find tracers these days. that and we always downloaded our magazines too. no more than 18 in a 20 round mag. later with the 30 round ones
the number was 28. used to be SOP in the old days. but that was a long time ago now. and there was another trick some guys did with a 8 inch mill file too.
flatten the tips on 55grain bullets, they hit and expand instead of punching thru
    “things” just saying, of course

    • I heard tale back in Korea they were snipping the tips off 30 ought 6 with bolt cutters for the same reason. It probably plays devil with accuracy but when you are dealing with human waves are you really paying attention to anything other than rounds On Target?

  2. Got sum too, although it is SS109 bullets without the green tips that I handloaded. Shot a piece of 4.5 inch diameter (O.D.) mild steel pipe, 5/16 wall thickness, at 40 yards with a 16 inch barrelled AR. Went right through the near side and left a most respectable divot in the opposite inside wall. Be aware that this stuff is not he best for “soft” targets, especially from faster twist barrels. At high rpm, it is so stable that it tends go right through like an ice pick.

Also note per this article, the Feds (so far) do not consider SS109 to be AP–

  3. While green tip is fine for practice, civilians (not being constrained by the conventions of land warfare) have far better ammo available. It is my opinion that the well stocked ammo shelf contains heavier weight hunting ammo. Never know when you might need to get a “bag limit”.

  4. All my gats are a little old school I guess. Colt SP1,HK 93,Valmet M76 all have 1/12 twists so it’s the m193 55 g I need to stock up on. No matter how much you have it’s not enough.

    • You must fish the same waters that I fish. Those squalls can come out of nowhere! 😉
