I was talking to a guy at a gas station who said he was driving down the highway in his new Ford pickup with the Eco Boost engine at normal speed and not accelerating and a rod and piston blew out the side of the engine block. I wonder what fault codes it threw? You just know the first thing they did at the dealership was plug it into the analyzer.
The last good engines made were the Coyote, the 6.2L “Boss” and the naturally aspirated 3.5 V-6.
I skipped over newer Eco 2-liters for our 2014 edge with the 3.5. Between carbon build up in the intakes, head gasket failures, and wet belt failures – all the new Eco-crap are just garbage.
I have to laugh at these. The joshing between brand loyalists is often funny. I’m not a brand loyalist. I drive what I can afford when I need a new vehicle. I shop for low miles and have a mechanic look them over.
However, having grown up on a working farm my dad always said “Chevy is for going to the banks to borrow money. If you wanna work truck, you buy a Ford or Dodge. Chevy doesn’t last in the fields.” YMMV
My last Dodge (’91 Ram extended cab) blew a transmission on the Interstate at 70mph with the wife and kid in back seat).
My last Ford (’97 Expedition) kept blowing spark plugs and leaving the wife stranded in parking lots, banks, train stations.
My last two Chevy’s (’07 Suburban, ’12 Tahoe) blew engines thanks to the stupid cylinder deactivation features. I even had one of those ODB Deactivation delete plugin thingies. Only my ’91 Stepside was reliable.
My ’04 Wrangler has only left us stranded once when my son (somehow) cracked the bell housing on the transmission. Oh, and one clutch. We still have it for playtime on the beach.
I daily drive a Tundra now. LOL The wife drives a Chevy Bolt (yes the EV, no it hasn’t caught anything on fire – and you couldn’t pry it out of her hands because it is SO convenient for a runabout around town).

Just Kevin trying to get under my skin, is all. He hasn’t busted my chops in a while, so I was due.

Yup, Leigh, I did have an itch and when I realized it was Fords…
I got no opinion on Ford vehicles one way or another, but ol’ Henry Ford, the man himself, was right about a thing or two.
