If you do then you are a Geezer like me now because they have been gone a long time.
I ran across this little trivia video about what ever happened to the red pistachios and thought it was interesting so I’ll share.

I remember red pistachios. After listening to and watching this dude with the annoying voice bobbing and weaving like he’s dodging punches for ten seconds, I lost interest in finding why pistachios used to be red.
The manner of message delivery is just as important as the message, especially in this age of videos portrayed by annoying people. That’s why I prefer to read messages, rather than watch and listen to them.
1. Thanks, Phil. That was interesting.
2. Agree with
>dude with the annoying voice
Thank you, Nemo. Nice to know it’s not just me annoyed by the style of presentation. But “faggy voice” and “body by soy” is the new normal for males under … somewhere around 35. Two effects of this. A) my gaydar (developed in the late 1970’s through 80’s) is now totally thrown off — my gut reaction these days is that 20-25% of young males are faggots. (No, I don’t mean homosexual. Not talking sexual orientation, talking “acting like a fag”.) That’s prolly not true; too high a percentage. But it sure seems that way. B) I personally haven’t changed that much (I don’t think) but I’ve moved up on the “masculinity scale” only because the background has shifted behind me.
I’d weep for the future generations, but we’re headed into the “hard times” that will “produce hard men”, IF we make it out through the other side.
Amen to that.
Yeah, I remember those. Unlike Nemo, I just did a web search, rather than watch the vid.
These type of posts make me think about other things we old folks remember. Here’s one – I remember when grocery stores had ashtrays at the ends of some of the aisles.
I vaguely remember red pistachios back when I was a kid, though they were likely imports from someplace that still did that,.and not domestic production. I’m also old enough to remember when we had no red M&M’s. Except for limited runs of red and green packaged in plastic “candy canes”, that were sold around Christmas. The popular explanation at the time being that the red dye caused cancer.
I do recall those ashtrays in the grocery store too. There was an old (built early-mid 1950’s), smaller location of one of the local chains here that still had a few of those when I was a kid, and I think a few of them even survived after smoking was no longer allowed inside the building (probably around 1984-85, likely due to either a municipal or county smoking ban) until they did some remodeling in the late 80’s, and the few holdouts finally disappeared.
That brings to mind another relic in the same store; their checkout terminals. These was probably mid-70’s vintage, early computerized jobs with scanning, and had these rounded “space age” stylized enclosures on them, orange plasma gas digital displays (not nixie tubes, more like Panaplex) and a noisy impact receipt printer that used “thimbles” much like the IBM selectric typewriters of the time. The outer housing on the terminals were either orange, harvest gold, or avocado green (they had a few of each). I believe they were manufactured by Litton, a one time defense contractor that was diversified into all kinds of other stuff.
As a kid, I thought those were really bitchin’, and was bummed out when they removed them all and installed brand new boring looking hardware, around 1990. I imagine by that point they were getting difficult to maintain, for lack of parts availability. And who knows what kind of ancient computer ran the system on the back end. Probably some sort of minicomputer that was equally difficult to maintain.
The social media has projected itself as part of the news. Look around every newscast, story, or article has someones mug on it. FOX brags about itself daily, as do everyone else.
I personally don’t need to see your ugly mug on a story about something else.
Social media projects the people informing you about a specific subject as though they are part of the story. I hate watching videos of a story while someone injects their ugly mug into the story. It is a ” look at me” syndrome., or, “I’m knowledgeable, successful, and good-looking” syndrome. The story is secondary to the message of self-presentation.
I have no intrest to plaster my mug all over a view, fact, or story that I might be deemed important.
I agree with Mike_C on the fag versus homo distinction. To me a fag is an effiminate male (I cannot call them men). There are plenty of extremely manly homos (with the exception of the obvious ‘shirt lifting’ tendencies) and there are plenty of heterosexual faggots so the distinction stands and is not an anti-homo (gay) word as far as I am concerned. Being a libertarian I do not care what someone chooses to do in privacy of their own homes per se but I do find affectations like that voice to be particularly grating.
I love pistachios but not enough to listen to more than 18 seconds
The shells used to be splotchy from how they dried them .
They figured out how to dry them better so they could save money on the dye. Plus, I assume, red dye number whatever scared everybody.
Me? I miss the red shells, you could tell who was taking your pistachios.
We were bombing the pistachio groves inn Iran in last 6 months
The California pistachio company was owned by a Jew couple they need to keep the monopoly going
Piss on em
Always knew who was eating pistachios with red fingers same with pomegranate
