Nice shot. What rifle and what caliber?
Sounds like bolt action…if that single shot actually killed him with a face shot my guess would be .308, .300 Win Mag or .30-06. Anything lighter probably would have bounced off the skull. Either way, I’m putting a second round behind his ear. Now the fun starts…you get to haul his fat azz out & spend 4 days cutting & grinding. Moose chili, anyone?
A couple of guys I was stationed with in Alaska were so excited to find one that they popped it in a muskeg swamp instead of waiting for it to come out first. Pretty sure the fun part after that didn’t last very long and they’ll never do that again.
I think I just dropped a little mud.

They are lucky the moose paused, otherwise the moose might have won.

Correct follow up is reload, one in the chamber, safety off, back off and wait a few. Walk over from the back if possible with finger on the trigger and poke the eyeball.
If it twitches, pull the trigger. Taxidermist can fix the mess.
