  1. That one with the baby in the back. I personally did that when I wasn’t much older than that kid in the pic. We would take trips at night to my grandparents in Oklahoma and I would sleep there.

    • Parents always had station wagons and that is where we would sleep on long overnight trips and ‘Gasp!’ no seatbelts in site.

    • Fred when we left Oklahoma on vacation I would play or sleep in the back dash.

What city did your Grandparents live in?

  2. Great pics, especially the top one. Always thought the 59s were the best looking. Over the top but real nice.

    • I agree with Hank although for me, the 58 Impala was a very close second. Lots of people scorned the 58’s but not me.

      • Absolutely agree. As a lad living in Arlington Ma, a white 58 highly optioned Impala parked across the street. I was blown away. Couldn’t take my eyes off it.

  3. I’ve a suggestion for the Big 3 at Detroit: employ the readership of Bustednuckles as consultants to their design teams. People may then actually desire American steel to roll down the roads in again.

  5. I love the way the American cars have progressed. I’m 76 years old. I remember when you could not only order various body styles of a full size Chevy. Like the pictures of the ’57 you show. Not only all the different body styles but whatever engine you wanted. 6 cylinder, V-8, V-8 with single carb, with dual carbs, with fuel injection, what ever rear end ratio you wanted.
    I remember my father buying a ’62 Chevy. Choice of a 6 cylinder, a 283 V-8, a 327 V8 or a 409 with one 4bbl or 2 4 bbls. 2 speed Power glide. 3 speed TurboGlide, 3 speed on the column or 4 on the floor.
Now, you get a choice of what color you want. No other choices and at 30 times the price
