I have an 18 foot Old Town sailing canoe, and it DOES have outriggers that clamp to the gunwhales. Fun to sail in light wind but a bitch to tack in wind over 10 mph. There’s a trick I developed to tack in the stronger winds.
I’ve had the canoe go sideways in strong winds, even with the “lee boards” in the water!
I like that South African rig and the second one is pretty cool
