I fully believe that every Engineer, mechanical, electrical, electronic, whatever, work the trades that their designs result in hardware. Yes, even programmers. I am of the opinion, and “life” backs me up, that the best designers put some busted knuckles and a little scraped-open skin “in the trenches” to dee just what their designs entail in The Real World. Maybe then you wouldn’t have to remove the bloody intake manifold to replace the oil filter or the starter! Maybe you wouldn’t have bolts that HAVE to be removed blocked by other assemblies that need to be removed before you can get said bolt out. Maybe you could be able to see just how difficult your UI is to use by The Average Joe.
You get the idea. Put some time in as an Apprentice before you call yourself A Real Engineer/Programmer/Designer.
