  1. “Welcome to Maine! Now leave your wallet and go home!” was the common sentiment when I lived up there.

  2. Maine is a state of mind. I own land there and know some of the locals. The ones I know are independent minded people for the most part and take no shit from anyone, even in jest. That land is out in the pucker brush. I once asked one of them what there is to do around here.” Drink and f*ck, lots of both” was the response.

They can be lots of fun, but don’t ever cross them.

  3. They would not fly in Montana either I sued to issue plates and I have a BS N U plate that made it through the system until the supervisor saw it and she did not let it be issued.

  4. I forward this to an old shipmate in Maine and got this response back.

Yes, Maine is different. Pretty much anything was okay on the “vanity” plates until now. This year the state decided to disallow obscenities on the plates and recalled approx. 270 that were deemed obscene or violate peoples’ sensitivities in some way.

  5. Yeah, Florida too. They won’t allow anything that might be rude, offensive, sex related, or political. I had friends, Norman G Rxxxx, and his wife, Harriet T. Rxxxx, that had their request for a personalized tag using their initials denied for no reason!
