A Phil Update, 6:30PM

I just got off the phone with Phil and he is doing better he says. He has had some post op complications and they are being addressed. Phil said he is sore and has bruising over most of his lower body. The doc said there were able to establish a blood flow to his left extremity and the pain has diminished considerably. He hasn’t been much on his feet, so he doesn’t know how that will effect the pain or blood flow. He may be discharged tomorrow if he can accomplish some discharge criteria as anyone that has faced with major surgery, belch, fart, piss and shit… I am not telling you which he is not passing. Phil has a long road ahead, this is/was a serious surgery and the prognosis as I understand Phil is looking good, but sometimes your body doesn’t want to fully cooperate. He may post tomorrow late afternoon and can fill you in, thanks for being there all of you for Phil!

  1. Thanks for the update CederQ. It’s good to hear that he’s still on the correct side of the dirt.
I’m sure he has a long way to go. Just because he gets discharged does not mean he’s out of the woods yet. I hope he has adequate support from the people around him, and you can pester them to be careful too.

  2. Anything over five days and they would have to strap Phil to the bed. Here’s hoping his poor carcass gets the hint and heals quickly. I’d add “painlessly”, but that just doesn’t happen unless you are doped to the gills.

    GET BETTER, PHIL

    Or else.

  3. Thanks for the update. I recall waiting to be discharged – I wondered how the hell I was supposed to take a dump, when I wasn’t eating hardly anything.

  4. Good man Phil! I know all too well how totally unrelated to surgery stuff can happen. C3 to T1 fusion, IN THE NECK? and WTF happens? Surgeon comes in next day to see how I was doing… first thing I says… “You broke my WEINER!!!”

We have a good rapport and had a good laugh over it actually.

Odd stuff anesthesia… seems in us (grumbles and winces) “ELDERLY” gentlemen, sometimes deep anesthesia can “interrupt” the flow of urine. That can be rather UNCOMFORTABLE to the tune of 1.3 litres once “relieved”….

May your recovery proceed and the best possible outcome be attained!

  5. CederQ, thanks for the update.
Phil: ya gotta get outta there to get a decent cuppa & a smoke. Hospital coffee
sucks. Heal quick…the sprite needs ya.

  6. “belch, fart, piss and shit”…
If the fucker is anything like me, he’ll be out in no time because he’s a pro at all 4. That’s me within a minute of getting out of bed at 4 in the morning.
    Get better, ya’ old Bastard.

  7. Prayers continuing for you Phil. Go ahead and give ’em all the samples they want and get outta there. I know you shouldn’t have any trouble giving them some shit … I see you do it on the blog all the time.

  8. You’ve hopefully been off nicotine for 8 days now. Keep it up and I’m sure the doc have told you not to smoke. It does screw with your body and you’ll take longer to heal. Hoping that this enforced rest has helped the foot. But besides all that, still praying for you. Get home, stay down, let the kids and wife wait on you like you really are the King of the castle.

  9. I hope that is good news. The idiot hospitalist wanted to release me to go home, and it took TWO physical therapists to stand me on my feet. Everybody threw a pitched bitch, and more realistic plans were made. I pray Phil is on his feet, on his own, and can walk the distance from the car up any steps and into the house before he is released.
