There’s nothing crazy about it. First off, it is in KC,MO. Think about it: It is great for storage because it is always at the same temperature. What else are you going to do with all that space after you have mined out all the limestone? When Hubby was a long-haul trucker, I rode with him more than once to the food warehouses in the cave. At the time, I don’t remember any paving, the cave was dusty and you needed to drive slowly. The only paving was in front of the docks.
Iy would be a good indoor rifle range, limited by the trajectory of the projectile. No windage to bother you.
You should see the mine caves that the Mormons store their genealogy records in!
There are some of the largest salt mine caverns in the area as well. I thought that’s what this was.
I believe those are in Hutchinson, KS, near where my in-laws live. You can get guided tours of them.
55,000,000 square feet of space
I wonder if they have cell phone repeater antennae installed down there. A friend of mine was once a coal miner and this perfectly shows what he called “room and pillar” mining. Very interesting.
No other cars around. Business can’t be good.
They even have an underground paintball facility down there.
So clean and empty. When will the homeless people show up?
They’d have to be some kind of stoopid to let the homeless in ANY part of it.
Been in there many times as a truck driver. Super nice people working there. They let me drop my trailer outside, in their secure lot, & let me spend the weekend at my daughter’s house, in south K.C.
Good place to ride out WW3? Any major targets nearby?
