Yesterday, I experienced an vitreous hemorrhage and developed external subconjunctival hemorrhage

subconjunctival hemorrhage. Not my eye, just for example.

About 8:30 am yesterday I suffered in my left eye, a severe vitreous hemorrhage which built pressure in the eye causing it to rupture yesterday. I experienced an vitreous hemorrhage and developed subconjunctival hemorrhage(white tissue of the eye) resulting a bleeding tear on the conjunctivae(external). I was rushed to the hospital by the paramedics and then transferred by an ambulance to Portland OHSU hospital for more extensive exam and treatment. The internal bleeding was cauterized and the tear sutured. There might be retinal involvement but it will take some time for all the blood to dissipate for a clearer image. I can still see shapes and large writing, so I have that going for me. I am now wear an eye patch and will for a while. I have been having problems for awhile in my left eye with the vitreous fluid in it from sluffing and causing wispy shapes and large black floaters. That is why I was absent for a couple of days. I can see out of my right eye and it will just slow me down a little more…

  1. If you can, please contact Dr. Annette Sims, who practices in Eugene, Oregon.

My wife sees her, and Dr. Sims did miracle work for my father in law before he passed several years ago.

Please, do us all(on this site) a favor. Go to that link, and call her office.

Closer than OHSU, and maybe better results.

    • I already have an Ophthalmologist I see in Roseburg and a Ophthalmology specialist in Springfield for the vitreous sloughing and detachment and both will be seeing me next Monday for an exam and consultation. I am quite pleased with both. Thank you for the reference and I will keep it in mind.

  2. Damn, dude.
Take a step back and do whatever it is you have to do to heal up. The health comes first.
ps…you weren’t suppose to take the calls for eye bleach literally…

  3. Good luck, CedarQ. Nasty looking and sounding issue. Are you on any blood thinners or meds that make bleeding more of an issue? Hope you’re back to normal fast!

    • Sig, I am an insulin dependent diabetic and I have had diabetic retinopathy in both eyes(capillary bleeds) in the retina so I have two preexistent conditions for a possible bleed and it burst…

  4. 33 years ago I experienced a nail in the eye. It happened in a hog barn while fixing a pen. Partial removal of some of the iris protruding from my eye, eight stitches, and a week in the hospital on IV antibiotics. Saved my eye though vision is some what reduced and driving at night is out since the iris tries to close against oncoming lights and then it won’t focus. Still better than losing it so I hope yours heals and your vision stays intact.

  5. I’ve had a couple of scleral hematomas that looked like that, but they were self limiting, and nothing internal to the eye. They looked gnarly just like yours, and took several weeks to fade.
I went in to get a new pair of glasses a few years ago, and found out that there’s a lot more to eye exams than glasses. My IOP (eye pressures) were pretty high. Not panic level high, but concerning, leading to getting laser iridotomy in both eyes. Basically punching a hole in the iris to drain fluid and prevent acute angle closure glaucoma, which is a true medical emergency. I was on an eye drop (Latanoprost) for a couple of years, but have since discontinued it, and just have pressures checked every six months.
I hope the experts are able to resolve your issues. Good luck Cederq.

  6. An eye patch? Now all you need is a peg leg and a parrot. Or a kilt and a saber of some sort. 😁

Bottom line, Tis but a scratch, walk it off.

But seriously, praying for you and believing for no lasting visions problems.

    Be well and take care

  7. Ouch. Do take extremely the best care you can with that, Sir. Also, do take every opportunity you can… to freak people out with it. I mean… if you gotta suffer with it then everyone else should too.

    Heal well and expeditiously.

  8. My wife and I are praying for you my friend. I am going to trust Him to guide the doctors to be able to negate as much of the damage done as possible and your eyesight will be returned to where it was.
    Take care brother.

  9. I will never understand why bad shit happens to good people…

Best wishes and prayers for a fast recovery.

  10. Yikes! That’s the ugliest thing I’ve seen in ages.

Bear Claw and I were wondering where you’d wandered off to and now we know.

  11. I, too, am an insulin-dependent diabetic, having had about half my pancreas removed due to P-NETs (varying amounts of Tresiba plus Jardiance daily) and have a couple/several “eye” doctors I have to see regularly. I’ve now been recommended for cataract surgery; other problems create a problem for the anesthesia. Oh, well! What a pain in the uh! eye..
    Enough !
    I wish you the best.

  12. Next time you are in a bar and ask for two fingers of red eye, make sure the barman has small hands and narrow fingers. Just saying, is all … >};o)

Joking aside, that kind of thing has several causes, high blood pressure being one, so get it checked out ASAP. Early detection and action is best.

    Fingers crossed for you.

    • Actually I have lower than “normal” blood pressure. It is the combination of being a diabetic since 1990(insulin) and prior surgeries for my diabetic retinopathy(capillary bleeds through the retina structure) you realize I am a retired nurse, MSN.
