I really liked the sights on my M-16A1
Point taken. Am happy to report that cataract surgery/lens replacement brought the sights back into focus for me. For others, an optic of some kind may be their only choice. I run an optic on my AR by choice, but I also have B.U.I.S. on there.
I am in agreement with you RHT, scopes have their purpose and blurry, cataract infused eyes are difficult to focus through to hunt, I too have had that problem, since corrected. My premise is scopes are too fragile for most of what we go through to hunt and if the spice time comes knocking. You tend to be worried about damaging your scopes and techno wiz gadgets instead of focusing on prey or what needs to be killed.
Festoon?!
That’s a pretty fancy two dollar word you are throwing around on a two bit blog
there mister.
I am trying to raise the mean IQ ratio and bring some class to this podunk little endeavor… also to get ya’ll looking in a dictionary to broaden your minds…
Try harder.
“I’ll try Captain, I got the bairns to the max!” Scotty
“Wheeeeeee!!“
Dictionary? My reading material while in the loo for many, many years. TMI?
When I was younger, yeah. Now, I’ll take all the help I can get.
I am 64 and shoot iron sites. The only rifle I have with a scope is a .22 Marlin semi auto with a 9X scope and I used that for varmint killing. Like whistle pigs… most prey kills and combat shooting is 300 to 400 yards, iron sights are perfect and designed for that.
Finish this trip around the sun and I turn 70. Darn kids. 😉
Right next to ya, laddie.
Iron sights, optics, it’s all the same to me. I use what’s available.
And I use a laser for close-up work.
And always reliable no batteries needed but I see none to good these days so’z I need help.
Laser. I recommend Crimson Trace.
I won’t need sights for anything I shoot at.
I use a red dot for these old eyes but I mount on a hollow riser so I still have full use of my irons if batteries take a dump.
way back in the day, the army used to teach point shooting. I still shoot that way for most things. showed a friend how to do it with a 22lr rifle AFTER taking the scope off it. he was amazed he could hit 4 inch targets at 50 yards like that.
spent 2 summer vacations teaching the grandson how to do it as well.
this year he starts doing longer range shooting at the 300 yard one.
he didn’t think a 22 could go that far before.
and he big enough now to start learning how to use a shotgun too
looks to be a fun 2 weeks coming up !
Sounds like a fun time ahead of you Dave enjoy.
EMP? No more red dot
Batteries no longer available? Yer fucked
Me and Ced were talking about this excat subject the other night, that new Sig Wonder Rifle the DotMil now has? 3.5 pound whizz-bang sooper-dooper do it all sight? Yeah, no batteries/no power/drop it/broke dick?
