Lost me there. AFAIK, NHRA is still running races.
I thought the same thing until I realized he was talking about being able to fit between the seat and steering wheel.
I was talking about drag racing in the late 60s and 70s. A purer sport and not so may damn rules and BS.

You got that right. Back then they just hopped in, gave the car the gas and the opponent the finger. Good times.
“I know several millionaires who are now moderately wealthy because of a fuel car.”
Shirley Muldowney
Many moons ago a friend was cruising the pits and Shirley was back their tokin up between runs.
We used to go to the night drag races all the time, always seemed more funner.
I kinda miss Wide World of Sports. It aired on ABC from April 29, 1961, to January 3, 1998. I think ABC screwed up by airing it on Saturday afternoon when most working people wanted to be out doing something instead of watching TV. They presented a great variety of non main stream sports such as drag racing, crazy Franz Klammer downhill ski racing, ski jumping, competitive ice skating, competitive gymnastics and rodeo among others that most had not or would never have experienced otherwise.
“The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat”, especially the defeat of the ski jumper crashing is an all time TV classic, IMHO.

The agony of defeat was the best part of the clip
And don’t get me started about the shit-show that NASCAR is slowly becoming.
since the 80’s…
I stopped following NASCAR when they started running the “races” in stages…..what BULLSHIT…….!
Be nice to get back to quarter mile racing and engines up front where they belong and 100% in the tank.
Bring back Jungle Pam or her granddaughter!
